Hotel review for Hotel Iberostar Quetzal

Hotel

this type of hotel is a fabulous for family holidays.
there are lots of rooms & you can fit like 3 people in each.
this hotel is good for all ages as it has a childrens club for the kids
obviously & there is a nightclub for 14+ i would say.
in the daytime there are many activities such as archery, beach volleyball, salsa dancing with the star friends team & many more.
the service is amazing, the mexicans will do anything for you no matter what time of day or night.
they are always there.
the star friends team are amazing. they do nightly shows in the theatre which are highly entertaining.
and they go to the nightclub on a friday night if your up for it.

Location

the location is great if you like small shops & just want to stay in the hotel.
but if you want to go into playa del carmen which is only 5 mins away in a taxi but if you walk it takes about 40 mins.
be warned that in playa del carmen it is so hot you will almost pass out so drink lots of water & keep hydrated.
the beach is only 5 mins away from any room really so thats not too bad.
if you go to the beach go to the towel place & ask for an umberella witch you have to give your room number & name for & then take it back when you have finished.
umbrellas are great for the beach because at 11-3 it get scorching as it is peak time for the sun & you will need one.
travel time to the airport varies because if you get a transfer coach it could take upto 4 hours so i dont reccomend it; i reccomend you get a taxi which takes 50 mins and then you can get there on time.

Service

service at the hotel couldnt be better.
all staff are great & love the kids.
especially the star friends team who as i say again are brilliant with children.
they do anything with them.
check in takes literally 5 mins because all they do is check your ticket & put a wristband on you & give you a room card & then Your off.

Gastronomy

there is lots of restaraunts in this double hotel.
and the service there is fantastic.
you have to book for the alacarte restaraunts though but if you get there on time your fine. you are advised to book your 5 alacartes when you get there.
tipping is optional but if your going to tipp then the average is around 2 american dollars or 20 mexican pesos.

Sport & Entertainment

there are a whole range of sports.
especially pool games & the salsa & merengue lessons.

Room

rooms are fabulous. they are big and spacious with lots of mirrors so if you like looking at yourself then thats great haha.
they have a shower, beds , hairdryer & all the normal stuff you would expect in a room.
general sound noise is not quiet because at around 6 am you may hear the sound of the pecocks & the monkeys so be prepared for a farmyard awakening.

Tips and recommendations

now then mobile phone reception is rather poor for some people & for others its great.
i took my phone on holiday here & i am on orange pay as you go & had no reception all holiday but i wasnt really there to phone people i just wanted to take pictures so that was okay.
but my mom took her phone & she is on orange contract & had perfect signal.
so i suggest be on contract for a good signal.
telephone costs are very high there; its about £5 a minute or about $10 us dollars per min so i wouldnt phone anyone regularly.
i think the best time to go is in feb/march/may time as it is warm and you get a great tan, plus its not in hurricane season.
mexico is hot all year round so anytime is good to go.
