Acapulco was an important trading point. “Acapulco” comes from the Nahuatl language, an Uto-Aztecan language spoken primarily by Nahuas in Mexico and Central America. Acapulco means “At the big reeds / At the broken reeds”.The oldest discoveries including for example, clay utensils or tools to grind corn, come from the first formal settlements originated in the thirteenth century by the Olmecs.Acapulco In 1476 was occupied by the Aztecs and in 1523 by the Spanish. Acapulco was the busiest trading point of New Spain. Its location ensured the city's success for centuries. In 1873 Acapulco was renamed to “Acapulco de Juárez” to honor the former President Benito Juárez.Since 1950 the city has experienced an economic boom in the tourism sector.

Religion
The majority of the inhabitants in Acapulco are Catholics and the remainders are Protestants.

Airports / Car rental
Acapulco has an International Airport “International Airport Acapulco General Juan N. Alvarez” located about 26 kilometers from the city Acapulco. From there one can rent a car at the airport are travel into the city via bus or taxi.

Public transport
Within the city one can travel with several buses and taxis. A cheap way of traveling is by going with “Costera cabs”. These drive up and down the coast of Acapulco, the area where most hotel resorts are located and also passing by the old town of Acapulco. However the “Costera Cabs” despite being the cheapest travelling manner have a complex system to follow. Therefore Acapulco's government has established a bus system for tourists. These are yellow buses with the logo "Acapulco" on them with specific route destinations however also circulate the tourist section of Acapulco driving up and down the coast. These buses of not only for tourists, but are the most convenient manner of transportation.

Culinary Specialities
In Acapulco there are many restaurants serving local Mexican specialties. Almost everywhere you go you can find outdoor restaurants. The typical local cuisine in Mexico includes amongst other things: tortillas, tacos, borritos and gorditas.

Lifestyle / Sights
In Acapuluco there are three major shopping centers: "La Gran Plaza", "Galleries Diana" and "Plaza Bahia."In the city of Acapulco and its surroundings there are several tours that can be done at affordable prices. One of the touristic attractions is to visit “La Isla de la Roqueta” which is located facing the “Santa Lucia Bay” in Acapulco, where one can see “La Virgen de los mares” or “la Quebrada” where you can see the famous cliff divers.The city of Acapulco is also famous for fishing. The city is ideal for diving and snorkeling, there are also many other interesting things to do.It is also famous for its nightlife. To get into the clubs you have to pay an entry fee, however once you are inside you can drink what you want for free. Along the coast there are also many outdoor bars.
