Customs / CultureBarcelona is a truly global city owing to its growing importance in international trade, finance, arts, entertainment, media and commerce. It is also one of Europe's most important Mediterranean ports. In other words, the capital of Catalonia has come a very long way since the years of repression under the heel of the dictator, General Franco who died in 1975.
Traditions
Barcelona fought against General Franco and lost resulting in the abolition of Catalonian institutions and the suppression of the Catalan language. Traditions such as Flamenco dancing allowed the people some free expression but it was not until Franco’s death and Spain joining the European Union that Barcelona was able to fully emerge from the dark days of fascist rule. Today, the Catalan tongue and traditions are proudly exhibited in a city that benefitted immensely from hosting the Olympic Games in 1992.

Barcelona Airport is about 17 km from the centre of the city and there is both public transport and car rentals available when you arrive. The airport is the second largest in Spain and mainly serves Spanish and European destinations.

Culinary SpecialitiesAdjacent to Barcelona’s port and main beach is Barceloneta, where you will find numerous fish restaurants. Although fish dishes are a staple in Barcelona there is a tremendous choice of restaurants offering classic Catalan fare and Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese and “international” menus.

Throughout Barcelona there are fine examples of the work of the architect, Antoni Gaudi. His most famous design has yet to be finished and it is the church of the Sagrada Familia, which has, since 1882, been under construction and is a true wonder.
Barcelona is also rich in museums, art galleries and public spaces and parks. It is also considered to be the finest beach city in the world.

the building is- in spite of the 7 floors-still than manageable to describe. There was, next to the really huge (!) rooms still Conferencerooms, SPA and fitness facilities and a restaurant.
the whole establishment is immaculate and everyone clean.
the spacious bathroom is distinguished by shower and bath tub.
the room can inclusive breakfast be booked, which also recommendable nonetheless is.

we were only by the cleanliness the room satisfied, it was everything just very superficial clean and we actually not at all so delicate as other!
rooms are very well equipped.

The hotel complex is large and very modern, with all in all 10 floors. There were many business travelers, but also some tourists there.
We had a family room, this was very large, equipped with 3 closets, a TV (unfortunately without German programs), a mini bar with fridge, a safe, a bath tub and a bidet. It is very modern furnished. But unfortunately had our room, window, no natural light into the room. Because this you could only to a 'cellar' opening. Thus was any Daylight from the rooms' ... Read more

We spent 1 night in this design-oriented 26 story hotel the Starwoodgruppe. Many of the 473 rooms and suites are equipped with international guests all age groups occupied. We found all in all the guests but not 'to trendy' since 'hip' directed ladies on families to seniors of everything is.

great Cityhotel for young people in a good location
Hotel Residencia Melon District Marina in Barcelona, Catalonia
Melon district is a mixture of Dorm and hotel. We have during our stay actually only guests under 30 met.
the complex is relatively large and consists of several buildings, is however very offering a clear view. the whole complex is new, very modern and stylisch furnished.
