HistoryHistory of the city of Braga dates back more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest in Portugal, and one of the oldest Christian cities in the world. Braga is located in the north of the country in the region Cávado. It is the center of the province Minho, which counts over 800.000 residents. In Braga itself live less than 100.000 people (in the greater Braga area more than 150.000).
The city has also been the place of residence of the Bishop for a long time. For this reason, you can find Braga's nickname to be "Portuguese Rome". You will feel the medieval charm of the city when you see the beautiful baroque city center with the famous Romanesque cathedral.

Braga itself has only a national airport. The closest airport serving international traffic is the airport in Porto, about 50km from Braga.

From September to April it rains a lot in Braga. The region is characterized by high humidity. The temperature is highest in July and August - about 25°C. Winter temperatures do not fall below 5°C.

EventsYou should go to Braga during the Easter holidays. Because it is an important religious center, every year thousands of believers come here. They all celebrate the most joyous celebrations in the Catholic liturgical year. In the evening, they walk through the city center in processions. Good for the stay for a few days. However the balconies are addressed directly on the thoroughfare, which was relatively loud. Service is very good.
