In the Aosta Valley region the climate is severe as the mountains bock the mild winds making the area colder than other areas with the same altitude. Winters in this region are mild and foggy however frequent snowfall is ongoing making the area a good ski resort. The average temperature during the winter season is between -1°C and 3°C and during the summer between 17°C and 23°C. Summers are also mild and usually rainy. Courmayeur has a cold continental climate compared to other towns further down. The snow season in this town is long lasting up to 8 months sometimes with a temperature on average of -5°C.

Culinary Specialities
Food in Courmayeur is an important part in the life of the people living there. It has traditional and historical meanings, therefore extremely unique culinary is served in the area. This includes “fontina” which is typical Alps cheese, and it is true that you cannot get this kind of cheese in any other supermarket as it comes straight from the farmer, “lardo” which is lard, “spalla di sanato” which is a pork specialty, “castagne” chestnuts and “polenta”.
Sights
The most beautiful sight in this area is the view, therefore the best recommendation is to take the ski lift up to the highest point on the mountain and enjoy the view. Another thing to experience is the thermal baths of Pré Saint Didier which is about 5km away from Courmayeur allowing you to relax in a spa environment whilst observing the unique scenery.
