Trip Preparation

Dublin (Baile Átha Cliath in Irish) is the capital of the Republic of Ireland. With a population of over 500'000 inhabitants, Dublin is the largest city in the country.

Weather / When to go?
Dublin's climate is maritime, characterized by mild winters and cool summers. May and June are the months with the most sun. August is the rainiest month.

Country and People

History
The city of Dublin was built in 988 BC. The first inhabitants of the city were Norman. In the 9th century the city was occupied by the Danes, who were ousted by the Anglo-Normans. After the English Revolution, Oliver Cromwell ruled the city. Dublin then had a population of 9'000 inhabitants and chaos reigned in the city. However, in the 17th century saw a boom when Protestant refugees emigrated from Europe to Dublin. Soon thereafter, Dublin became the second largest city in the United Kingdom. In 1800 the Act of Union joined the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland, creating the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland which caused the destruction of the Irish parliament. The situation in Ireland is that Ireland improved to declare its independence in 1922. Then the city of Dublin became the center of political, economic and cultural development of Ireland.

Getting Around

Airport
Dublin Airport is about 9 miles north of downtown. Every 15 minutes there is a blue bus (Aircoach) from the airport to the city center and commutes to the larger hotels.

Public transport
In Dublin there are two major railway stations, the train from Heuston station which is located in the west of the city, and Connolly Station in the center of the city. To get to Dublin it is better to take the bus.

Car Rental
In a rental car you can travel more comfortably. A rental car is the ideal means of transportation to explore the island.

In Dublin there are two cathedrals, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (Christ Church), a medieval cathedral and the largest is the Cathedral of St. Patrick. The emblem of the city is the statue of the fishmonger Moly Malone on Grafton Street. There is also a popular song  about life and has become the unofficial anthem of Dublin.
