Joel Estes founded Estes Park in 1859, therefore the town was named after him. Near this town there is the famous “Stanley Hotel” which has become a Colorado tradition since 1909, at which Stephen King wrote “the shining” from which there is a lovely view onto the Rocky Mountains. In 1982 the “Lawn Lake Dam” failed and cause mass floods in the town, however today the town has recovered and it is a beautiful location to see a lot of history.
