The name Fethiye was attributed to the city because of the first Turkish pilot Fethi Bey. Another suggestion to the name of this city is that the name comes from the word conquest. Culinary SpecialitiesThe Turkish cuisine offers a variety of delicious foods. It is hard to even know what to start with. Turkish cuisine combines the flavors of cuisine: Greek, Bulgarian and Turkish. The most known specialty is the kebab which includes sliced meat on bread with tomato sauce and vegetables. If you prefer to eat a Kebab on a plate you can choose to switch the bread for rice or French fries. For the kebabs on plates you can order a meze, or a cold starters such as cream cheese, slices of melon, pepper, eggplant salad, calamari, yogurt with cucumber and garlic, kofte (grilled minced meatballs), and fish. Another very popular dish is gozleme which are cakes with minced meat and spices. If you prefer a lighter soup dish you can try a Corba. It is very satisfying as it is always served with plenty of bread. You can also order a tomato soup with beans and onion. Along to the food the most common drink to be order is Ayran, a Turkish beverage consisting of yoghurt and water. After eating the main meals, it is common to order a desert. The most popular desert is the baklava (layers of pastry layered with honey, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, soaked with icing). It is very sweet and something to be enjoyed slowly.
Lifestyle / Sights
In the center of the town is a port where you can take cruise ships. Fethiye is a city full of interesting sights, such as rock tombs, castles and an amphitheater. The Museum of Fethiye is definitely worth visiting whilst exploring the city. It contains exhibits from prehistoric times and Byzantine archaeological sites found in the nearby town. Tombs can be visited near the Town Hall (Hukumet Konai). The most interesting one is the tomb of Amyntas lying there since the fifth century BC. The tomb from the outside resembles the Ionic temple and to the west of the tomb stands the Hospitaller fortress. From its walls you can admire the beautiful view of the entire town of Fethiye which lies in Lycia. Not far from Fethiye you can take a unique tour which is a marked mountain trail leading through the ancient cities. In Fethiye, you can also enjoy the picturesque Bay of Oludeniz and visit the ghost town, village Kayakoy.

Hotel reviews for hotels in Fethiye
This hotel is a very good hotel but if you enjoy staying up until the early hours listening to really loud pounding music you will have a great time. There is a separate bar called the bus stop in the grounds of the hotel right outside the rooms. At midnight they crank up the volume and play until everyone has gone. It's a nightmare, we complained and they did say they would have word or move our room but it never happened. Seriously avoid this hotel there are plenty more far more quieter ... Read more

This hotel is close to everything, but slightly removed from the big concrete monstrosities that are beginning to line Calis beach. The 2 rooms our family had were sparkling clean and each had a balcony with views of the sea and a bit of the mountains.
By Turkish standards the rooms/bathrooms were large. They were sparkling clean and clearly had been recently renovated. The small balcony was lovely.
The woman who runs the hotel speaks Turkish and French, and her son speaks quite good Engli... Read more

This hotel is situated in a very peaceful area although it is very near to all amenities. All areas are very clean. The bedrooms are basic but more than adequate,en suite of course. The dining area is open to the sea views and is spotlessly clean. The breakfasts are continental style. Some mornings the Chef is in the dining area to cook whatever style egg you would like - boiled, fried, scrambled ?Dinner can be eaten there but we ate out so can't comment. There is a lovely garden with a pool an... Read more
