The region was first inhabited by Native Americans before European explorers discovered it. Shortly after 1910 the Great Northern Railway constructed various hotels and numbers in the area which are nowadays known as historic hotels and chalets. The Glacier National Park mountains began forming over 170 million years ago making this area extremely popular due to its historic development. This area has also encountered and recovered from many enormous fires and these areas can be spotted when visiting the Glacier National Park.
