HistoryAs far back as the 10th century London was already the largest city and most important trading center in England. Westminster Abbey was rebuilt in the 11th century by Edward the confessor, and this become the royal residence. The city continued to grow through the centuries becoming more economically prosperous. The tower of London was constructed after the famous battle of 1066 and this went on to house many famous figures in history.
The Tudor period brought the country to Protestantism.
In 1666 the famous great fire of London broke out in Pudding lane. This destroyed much of the city and left room for the building of iconic buildings like St Paul’s Cathedral by the famous architect Christopher Wren.
The city was bombed heavily in the Blitz during World war two. This killed many Londoners and destroyed buildings.
Customs and Culture
London is one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world; this is easily noticed just walking down the street. The city is a large financial center and this is evident in the busy 9 till 5 culture. However evenings in London are big and exciting. Often in the summer Londoners like to take the opportunity to relax by the river and enjoy the late evening sun.

AirportsThere are 3 large airports serving London. Heathrow and Gatwick are in fairly easy reach of the center and shuttle links between the airports and the city are frequent and widely available. Luton airport in slightly further away, about 35 miles north of central London however many connections are also available. The only airport located in London, is London city airport. The airport is small however some commercial airlines fly here.
Public Transport
Getting around is easy and simple in London. Make sure you get yourself a free map of the transport system including the tube (underground), and busses. Also if you are in London for a period more than a week, it is worth paying the 2 pound for an Oyster card, where you can upload money for travel. It will never let you go over the daily rate for a travel card.
Taxis
You can hail down a famous London black cab anywhere in the city. If they have their orange light off, you can just put out your hand and they will stop for you. London cab drivers are famous for having great knowledge of the city, there is a knowledge test you must pass before you are allowed to become one.

EventsThere is always something going on in London, festivals, markets and theatrical events happen throughout the year. One of the quintessentially British events that happens in London is the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Wimbledon takes place in the last two weeks of June.
Cuisine
The mix of many different cultures mean that London offers any type of food imaginable, from Sushi, Indian food, Mexican food to traditional British pubs. Farmers markets are great places to buy and try food like a traditional Cornish pasty as well as other treats from around the world. To avoid high price in restaurant avoid the tourist areas and look for restaurants in the residential areas of London where the locals eat.

the small hotel makes a comfortable impression. Through narrow hallways and corridors one arrives in your room. Not ordinary room location one had a view to all four sides.

The tower a guoman hotel is very large and is ideal.
the subway station tower hill is within a few minutes walking distance.
the rooms had for a city break a perfectly sufficient size.
the bathroom was really small and more practical.
Depending on what one bucght one has a view of the tower Bridge, or St. Catherines docks.

Recommendable, modern hotel in a central location


Hotel Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, London (Region)
the hotel is part of the park Plaza chain with high standard. It is mainly on people on business trip designed, meeting rooms, etc. are sufficiently available. When we were there, there were also many families there guests.
all in all fell us the cleanliness in the whole hotel and the staff's hospitality in the lobby, at the front desk and in the bar.

the hotel is a two star hotel and the value for money is very, very good.
the hotel has 18 rooms, distributed over 5 floors. The rooms are very convenient. Also the cleanliness is OK.

the hotel is older and very winding, but nevertheless its charm. The rooms are simple but clean, for a city break, the you could actually only the night in the room spends, adequate. Breakfast was simple and sufficient. Toast, yoghurt, muesli, fruit, jams, coffee, tea, juice etc. present, only no sausage and cheese.
