Introduction
London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom. Situated in South East England the city rests on the banks of the River Thames. London has a population of over 7.5 million people, making it the most populous city in the European Union.

Weather/ when to go

History
As far back as the 10th century London was already the largest city and most important trading center in England. Westminster Abbey was rebuilt in the 11th century by Edward the confessor, and this become the royal residence. The city continued to grow through the centuries becoming more economically prosperous. The tower of London was constructed after the famous battle of 1066 and this went on to house many famous figures in history.
The Tudor period brought the country to Protestantism.
In 1666 the famous great fire of London broke out in Pudding lane. This destroyed much of the city and left room for the building of iconic buildings like St Paul’s Cathedral by the famous architect Christopher Wren.
The city was bombed heavily in the Blitz during World war two. This killed many Londoners and destroyed buildings.

Customs and Culture
London is one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world; this is easily noticed just walking down the street. The city is a large financial center and this is evident in the busy 9 till 5 culture. However evenings in London are big and exciting. Often in the summer Londoners like to take the opportunity to relax by the river and enjoy the late evening sun.
