Naples International Airport is called Capodichino. It is the largest in Southern Italy. The airport is connected to the Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Municipio and to different bus lines and Alibus 3S.

At the airport there is a car rental service. But if you are only going to visit the city of Naples, it is better to go by bus (just 7 km away) and move to public transport in the city because it is busy and you can lose a lot of time in the car. If you are also visiting other cities it can be worthwhile.

Customs and traditions

One tradition that has remained unchanged throughout the centuries is the Neapolitan crib. The realism of the performances is what has given it more fame and popularity. It is one of the most religious symbols of the Neapolitan culture and decorates the homes of its inhabitants at Christmas.

The best place to find the real manger is in the historic center of Naples, in Via San Gregorio Armeno. It is renowned for making and selling hand cribs and it is not unusual to find representations of characters in addition to the typical current pastors. There are also shops where you can order mangers for everyone's taste. Before Christmas, this street turns into a real tourist attraction and many tourists return home with a manger in their suitcase.

History

The origins of Naples were placed by the Greeks in the eighth century BC. Several groups settled in this city until its independence: Romans, Byzantines, Normans, Aragonese, French, Spanish. One of the most important kings who was loved by the people was Charles VII (who later became Charles III of Spain). This king modernized both the kingdom and the capital, making it a typical capital of illustration, as he subsequently did with Madrid.

Public Transport / Taxis

The traffic in Naples can be quite complicated, so it is best to use public transport. The quickest way is the subway. There are 6 lines and you can travel throughout the entire city. There are also tram stops on the main points of the city. The bus lines are all circular. The problem here is that the buses are usually pretty full and traffic jams are always present in Naples. The price of the buses is fairly cheap, a daily ticket costs 3 € and is valid for all transports.
There is also a train, the circumvesuviana, which runs from Central Station Garibaldi to the rest of the metropolitan area and even leads to Pompeii and Herculaneum.
To go to the islands, there are other means like ferry or hydrofoil. Naples has many connections to the islands by boat, there are 3 lines connected to all major islands.

Roads / Infrastructure

The A1, which is the main highway that runs through entire Italy, is also connected with Naples. This highway, like all others, is a toll road, but it is very well kept and preserved and is the fastest way to reach your destination. Italy also has a network of state roads, the SS, the speed limit is much stricter but if you are not in a hurry and just want to see the countryside, this is the best option and your pocket will thank you as well.

Lifestyle

Living in one of the largest cities in Italy is usually busy with a fast pace of life. During summer, a lot of people are on the streets and there is usually also nightlife.
Although Naples is one of the cities with the highest crime rate, that does not mean that you can not travel safely as a tourist.

Monuments

Naples is particularly famous for its castles dell'Ovo Castel, Castel Capuano, Castle Maschio Angioino and the Castel Sant 'Elmo.
Also there is the Royal Palace of Capodimonte and the numerous museums, including the archaeological site.
As well worth checking out is the Cathedral and the Piazza Plebiscito.
