Geography and territoryNuremberg is located in Franconia, the northern part of Bavaria. With a population of about 500,000 inhabitants, Nuremberg is, after Munich, the second largest city of Bavaria in order of importance. Nuremberg is divided in two by the Pegnitz river and the old part of town is enclosed by walls.
Climate
In Nuremberg, a continental climate prevails. The best time to visit the city is between April and October.
Currency
The official currency is the Euro. There are many ATMs open 24/7. The banks are open weekdays from 8:30 pm till 16.30. On Saturdays and Sundays they are closed.
Language
The official language is German, although it is very frequently "Bavarian", a dialect of the region. Like most of dialects, Bavarian is very difficult to understand.
Electrical outlets / phone coverage
Two-prong electrical outlet with a voltage of 220 volts and frequency 50 Hz (as in Mainland Europe). The three-pin plugs are not compatible, for those you must buy an adapter.

Customs / HabitsWith an important history, Nuremberg is now a major tourist destination in Bavaria. The city boasts a lively nightlife and a taste for local cuisine. The inhabitants of this Bavarian town are particularly proud of Nürnberger Rostbratwürste (a sausage). During the Christmas season, between November and December, the old town comes alive with vibrant and colorful stalls at the famous Christmas market.
Culture / Traditions
At the time of the Holy Roman Empire, Nuremberg was one of the main political centers throughout Europe. In particular, the town was a popular meeting place of the kings of Germany. Nuremberg played a vital role in the industrial revolution. In fact, in mid-1800, this city had the honor of opening the country's first rail link.
At the end of World War II Nuremberg was almost razed to the ground. Today it is truly impressive to admire the careful reconstruction of the main buildings, churches, monuments and historic city walls. After the Second World War, the city was chosen as the site of trials for war crimes.
Today, Nuremberg is one of the most important destinations of Bavaria, tourists who travel to this city, admire its buildings, museums, but are also fascinated by its spectacular Christmas market.

In Nuremberg and in the rest of Bavaria most of the population is Protestant.

7 miles north of downtown, you will find the airport, which provides domestic and international flights. With the U-Bahn line there is a smooth connection to the city center. An alternative method to arrive to your destination is by taxi, the cost from the airport to Nuremberg's city center is around €15.
Public Transportation
There are U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams and buses. Although the best way to visit the old town is to go on foot.

EventsEvery year between late July and early August, Bardentreffen Nuremberg hosts a festival, a major outdoor music events in the country. The first festival was held in 1976 as a competition among amateur singers and musicians. Today, this festival brings together different musical genres and artists from around the world. The festival annually attracts over 200'000 visitors, who gather in the streets and squares of the city center to listen to the musicians and dancing.

Particularly well known is the Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, a sausage typical of the city of Nuremberg.
Among the stalls you will almost always find Christmas Lebkuchen, a sort of gingerbread

Nuremberg is a vibrant city that welcomes thousands of tourists and migilaia every year. With an important history behind it and after it was virtually razed to the ground at the end of World War II, Nuremberg was able to be reborn in an extraordinary way. Today, Nuremberg is a town that boasts a beautiful and friendly town center that is invaded in the summer months and during the winter by many visitors.
Attractions
The Hauptmarkt is the square where there are different markets and in particular the famous Christmas market. In this square is also the Schöner Brunnen fountain 20 meters high.
The center features many buildings, churches in the Gothic style and is animated by shops, restaurants, bars and various.
Germanic National Museum (Karthäusergasse 1): one of the most important museums of history and German culture. This museum contains within it more than 1 million objects, such as weapons, musical instruments, toys, but also real works of art: paintings, sculptures, porcelain, etc..
Toy Museum (Karlstrasse 13-15): where toys of different historical periods are exhibited.
Transport Museum: the jewel of this museum is the Adler, the first locomotive of Germany, inaugurated the first railway line in German history in the mid-1800s.
