Ocean City, also known as OC or OCMD, is a town in Worcester County (Maryland/USA). Located right on the Atlantic shore, the town with its about 7000 residents is a prominent destination for
vacationers, especially from the Mid-Atlantic region. Ocean City accommodates up to 8 million visitors per year in its countless hotels, motels and apartment houses. The town, which stretches over a
length of about 15 kilometers, is not only well known for its famous Boardwalk, but also for fishing and other water sports activities. In August, one of the world’s largest fishing tournaments, the
“White Marlin Open” is held at Ocean City.
Getting Around
The public transport system in OC is well-developed. There is the Boardwalk Tram, which takes you up and down the Boardwalk for a fare of 3 US dollars, the Coastal Highway Transit Bus, which travels
along the Coastal Highway 24/7 (the fare is only 1 dollar per boarding or 3 dollars for a day ticket) and the West Ocean City Park and Ride Shuttle Service.

1. Boardwalk:The Boardwalk, which is about 5 kilometers long, is located in downtown Ocean City. The Boardwalk has been rated one of the “Top 10 Great Boardwalks” of the United States (according to “USA Today”), and is the main shopping and entertainment area of OC. Among many shops and restaurants, there are also museums and two amusement parks, “Trimpers Amusements” and “Jolly Roger”. During the summer, there are also a lot of free family activities offered, such as concerts, bonfires, movies and beach Olympics.
2. Beach:
The beaches in Ocean City are free and open to the public from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. During the night, the beaches are cleaned. The beach patrol is on duty every day from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. Whether you want to go swimming, surfing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing or just lay in the sun and get a tan, the beaches in OC are just perfect for all that.
3. Dining:
The cuisine in OC offers everything that you can possibly wish for. Besides the world-famous Chesapeake Bay crab cakes you can have freshly caught fish and seafood, steaks, fried chicken, smoked ham and smoky ribs, but also classic boardwalk food such as freshly baked pizza, burgers, wraps, sandwiches and French fries. And what’s for dessert? You can choose between ice-cream, fudge, caramel popcorn, cotton candy, hot funnel cakes and chocolate-covered strawberries.
