Port Antonio was a rather calm town until “Lorenzo Dow Baker” came to Port Antonio in the 1880’s and started the Banana trade. Ever since the town has grown tremendously and attracted many tourists, it became a travel destination for wealthy Americans. Port Antonio is known for its traditional banana and coconut trade. A custom in Port Antonio is to stroll along the “Musgrave Market” as this sells many local products. It is tradition to play reggae music in the city.

Getting Around

Airports / Car rental
The most convenient airport when traveling into Port Antonio is “Norman Manley International Airport” which is located in Kingston. This airport receives international flights on a daily basis. At the airport it is possible to rent a car from the company “Island Car Rental Ltd.”

Public transport
Port Antonio is a very accessible town within Jamaica, as everything lays very closely one can hire a bicycle or even walk to most sights. Within the city there is a bus transport which rotates in Port Antonio, the rail however is now abandoned as it was used in the past primarily for banana trades.

Port Antonio is full of interesting unique sights, however some of the most interesting sights worth visiting and seeing include the “Blue Lagoon” which is a land-lock cove where it is also possible to swim, the “Navy Island” where one can see a tropical rainforest, and golden-sand beaches, the “Portland Parish Church”, the ruins of §Folly Mansion”, the “DeMontevin Lodge” and “Portland Parish court house.
