Trip Preparation

Latest version edited by HolidayCheck.com
Punta Cana is the most eastern province if the Dominican Republic. The area has been a popular tourist destination since 1970, especially because of its beaches facing the Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans.

Climate and When to go

The weather in Punta Cana remains fairly stable throughout the year. It’s tropical climate means it is warm year round. However this also means you can expect short heavy rain showers. Evening temperatures are also high, meaning long evenings can be enjoyed outside.

Currency
The currency here is the Dominican Peso. Cash machines and ATMS are available in the resort town, so getting hold of cash is not a problem.

Visa Requirements

When arriving in the Dominican Republic tourists must purchase a tourist visa for 10 US dollars. This can be done on arrival or alternatively in advance over the internet.

Country and People

Mentality and traditions

Like most inhabitants of the Caribbean, the people are extremely open. They are interested in everything and everyone, so don’t be surprised if you are asked a lot of questions.
The population of the Dominican Republic is manly made up of Europeans (Originally from Spain) and from people brought there by slavery. The majority of Dominicans are Catholic.

Getting Around

Airport
The Punta Cana International Airport is one of the busiest in the Caribbean and the busiest in the Dominican Republic.

Car rental
Can rental is a great way to expand your opportunities and visit other areas of the Island. You must be at least 25 to hire a car, and a credit card will be required to insurance against damages.

Public Transport
The public transport system is not highly developed, so if you are not ready for an adventure it is better to avoid. However it can be very fun, a great way to meet people and is often extremely cheap.

Discover and Enjoy

Things worth seeing and doing
The beaches at Punta Cana are arguably some of the best in the world! Enjoy the miles of powder beaches and crystal blue waters. The resorts in the area offer a wide range of watersports to keep any enthusiast or beginner busy. Scuba Diving, snorkeling, sailing, canoeing.etc.

Also an idea is to take a trip on a catamaran, where you can experience a real Caribbean relaxation. Listen too soft local music and enjoy the sound of the waves. Surfing and windsurfing are also popular activities especially in the windy season.

Cuisine
The traditional food here is a mix of Spanish and Latin American influences. It is not as heavily spiced as that of other Caribbean cultures. Locals tend to eat meats like chicken and goat as they are generally cheaper than fish and sea food. However for tourist there is lots on offer. The food in large resorts tends to be varied, and options are available for a variety of di...

The only from 18 years hotel is a hotel in the lowest hotel riu palace Punta Cana in bavaro. Despite opening the 2 December was when we arrived at the expected 5 December everything was really top notch-really great. Unfortunately, the sensimar spaces be used as pool, pool bar and pool toilets from the remaining riu guests, but the staff here only rarely act (which in very stubborn Americans, Germans and the friendly staff did not even Canadians to chalk is). Here, after consultation with the... Read more

The hotel is located in the riu palace bavaro. Both hotels were on the second December 2011 newly opened. Sensimar guests all areas of the hotel quite normal use (except the riu VIP area). The cleanliness of sensimar have a private swimming pool in the middle of the sensimar. Riu guests who accidentally (or deliberately) there are mostly from the sport & lostentertainment Staff asked to leave this area (didn't work). To the own private pool theme restaurant in addition, which was only of sens... Read more

WHAT SOME PEOPLE WRITE HERE, IS NOT CORRECT AT ALL! The hotel, the whole garden area, the rooms are very well maintained, clean and were constantly being renovated. The staff are absololut top, very friendly and accommodating (also without tips). Tables cleaned, Highest quality and they always asked for new drinks( one-time). I can only say, one can book this hotel without hesitation. The only, however therefor nobody can do anything about that, it was very windy and make on lake many aquatic... Read more
