Climate and When to go

The weather in Punta Cana remains fairly stable throughout the year. It’s tropical climate means it is warm year round. However this also means you can expect short heavy rain showers. Evening temperatures are also high, meaning long evenings can be enjoyed outside.

Country and People

Mentality and traditions

Like most inhabitants of the Caribbean, the people are extremely open. They are interested in everything and everyone, so don’t be surprised if you are asked a lot of questions.
The population of the Dominican Republic is manly made up of Europeans (Originally from Spain) and from people brought there by slavery. The majority of Dominicans are Catholic.

Getting Around

Airport
The Punta Cana International Airport is one of the busiest in the Caribbean and the busiest in the Dominican Republic.

Car rental
Can rental is a great way to expand your opportunities and visit other areas of the Island. You must be at least 25 to hire a car, and a credit card will be required to insurance against damages.

Public Transport
The public transport system is not highly developed, so if you are not ready for an adventure it is better to avoid. However it can be very fun, a great way to meet people and is often extremely cheap.

Discover and Enjoy

Things worth seeing and doing
The beaches at Punta Cana are arguably some of the best in the world! Enjoy the miles of powder beaches and crystal blue waters. The resorts in the area offer a wide range of watersports to keep any enthusiast or beginner busy. Scuba Diving, snorkeling, sailing, canoeing.etc.

Also an idea is to take a trip on a catamaran, where you can experience a real Caribbean relaxation. Listen too soft local music and enjoy the sound of the waves. Surfing and windsurfing are also popular activities especially in the windy season.

Cuisine
The traditional food here is a mix of Spanish and Latin American influences. It is not as heavily spiced as that of other Caribbean cultures. Locals tend to eat meats like chicken and goat as they are generally cheaper than fish and sea food. However for tourist there is lots on offer. The food in large resorts tends to be varied, and options are available for a variety of di...

Hotel Club Med Punta Cana in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic east coast

I can only say this was a great vacation. Warm welcome at the airport and then at the Club (very short shuttle time 10 minutes and NO planes noise). The good-bye was even warmer, you had the feeling that you are leaving friends... Rooms are very nice, not luxurious, but fonctionnal and very adapted for families : extra room for young kids, big shower, 2 basins, big dressing with safe, very good bed quality (and I am really difficult...). The village is beautiful, you also feel very safe, a... Read more
