Punta Cana

Punta Cana is the most eastern province if the Dominican Republic. The area has been a popular tourist destination since 1970, especially because of its beaches facing the Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans.

Climate and When to go
The weather in Punta Cana remains fairly stable throughout the year. It’s tropical climate means it is warm year round. However this also means you can expect short heavy rain showers. Evening temperatures are also high, meaning long evenings can be enjoyed outside.

Currency
The currency here is the Dominican Peso. Cash machines and ATMS are available in the resort town, so getting hold of cash is not a problem.

Visa Requirements
When arriving in the Dominican Republic tourists must purchase a tourist visa for 10 US dollars. This can be done on arrival or alternatively in advance over the internet.

Language
English is widely spoken in Punta Cana although the first language of locals is mainly Spanish.

Cuisine
The traditional food here is a mix of Spanish and Latin American influences. It is not as heavily spiced as that of other Caribbean cultures. Locals tend to eat meats like chicken and goat as they are generally cheaper than fish and sea food. However for tourist there is lots on offer. The food in large resorts tends to be varied, and options are available for a variety of different cuisines.
