Country and People
History
The name 'Sorrento' stems from the mythical Sirens - 'Surrentum'. Sorrento was founded by the Greeks and probably functioned as a Greek colony. In the days of imperial occupation of the town, it was a popular holiday destination for the Roman nobles.
To be considered...
Residents of Sorrento, just like the whole 'poorer South' are very kind and hospitable, and the family seems to be one of the most important values for them. Southern regions of Italy are full of contrasts. On the one hand luxury cars, on the other old, neglected buildings. Therefore, in addition to dozens of Sorrento luxury brand boutiques and luxury hotels, you will find the thirteenth-century monastery and the old and tranquil gardens of orange.

EventsSorrento's events schedule is pretty tight, just visit the website of the city and find that out. The events include, inter alia, Carnival (February), Easter processions, the celebration day in honor of the saints (St. Anna - July 26, St. Lucy -12-13 December), the August Feast of Our Lady of Assumption, the days of regional products (days olives, grapes , festivals and fairs of fish, sea days), as well as many summer jazz concerts.
Culinary Specialities
The specialty of the region is, of course, fish,as well as fish in connection with meat. In Sorrento, you can find all kinds of seafood. You can also eat pretty good Neapolitan pizza. Growing mandarins, oranges and lemons are often manufactured into citrus liqueurs and spirits.
Sights
In addition to numerous shops, pubs, restaurants and beaches, there is the center of the Piazza Tasso Sorrento (named after a sixteenth-century poet Tasso Tarquato) where artists can be found. Also a visit to the Museo Correale di Terranova is recommended, where you can see the regional jewelry products, as well as images of the Neapolitan school of painters. For those of you looking for the perfect silence a walk up the hill to the monastery and the church is recommended.
