Information about Sorrento

Trip Preparation

Located on the Gulf of Naples, Sorrento is one of the most beautiful sites on the rocky peninsula. The picturesque landscape of the majestic Vesuvius captivates tourists who return there each year.

When to go?
The mild and dry climate of southern Italy makes a trip to this region beautiful any time of the year. People who do not like heat and would only like to feel the warmth of the Italian sun should choose to go during the off-season months, preferably in May, June, September or October. The hottest months are July and August, average temperatures during these months exceed 25°C!

Electricity and mobile phone coverage
The coverage of mobile phones is not much of a problem.

Country and People

History
The name 'Sorrento' stems from the mythical Sirens - 'Surrentum'. Sorrento was founded by the Greeks and probably functioned as a Greek colony. In the days of imperial occupation of the town, it was a popular holiday destination for the Roman nobles.

To be considered...
Residents of Sorrento, just like the whole 'poorer South' are very kind and hospitable, and the family seems to be one of the most important values for them. Southern regions of Italy are full of contrasts. On the one hand luxury cars, on the other old, neglected buildings. Therefore, in addition to dozens of Sorrento luxury brand boutiques and luxury hotels, you will find the thirteenth-century monastery and the old and tranquil gardens of orange.

Getting Around

Airports
The nearest airport is in Naples (Aeroporto di Napoli). Sorrento is located only 50 km away and combines the A3 motorway and SS145 (over an hour away). At the airport you can order a taxi or rent a car.

Public Transport
In addition to the Sorrento taxis and car rental points, there are also scooters, buses and railway stations. The city has good connections with the major tourist points, such as Naples, Pompeii and Rome. The presence of the port enables a trip to Capri and Naples by ferry.

Events
Sorrento's events schedule is pretty tight, just visit the website of the city and find that out. The events include, inter alia, Carnival (February), Easter processions, the celebration day in honor of the saints (St. Anna - July 26, St. Lucy -12-13 December), the August Feast of Our Lady of Assumption, the days of regional products (days olives, grapes , festivals and fairs of fish, sea days), as well as many summer jazz concerts.

Culinary Specialities
The specialty of the region is, of course, fish,as well as fish in connection with meat. In Sorrento, you can find all kinds of seafood. You can also eat pretty good Neapolitan pizza. Growing mandarins, oranges and lemons are often manufactured into citrus liqueurs and spirits.

Sights
In addition to numerous shops, pubs, restaurants and beaches, there is the center of the Piazza Tasso Sorrento (named after a sixteenth-century poet Tasso Tarquato) where artists can be...

Also a visit to the Museo Correale di Terranova is recommended, where you can see the regional jewelry products, as well as images of the Neapolitan school of painters. For those of you looking for the perfect silence a walk up the hill to the monastery and the church is recommended.

Suns
The hotel is quite spacious and has quite many rooms. Nevertheless it was for the ' Reinigungsbrigade ' not a problem, the rooms good in shot to be held. Our presence end of October was the guest structure very International (Asians, Europeans, Americans). We enjoyed half board: the breakfast was okay and varied, only the coffee was for Italian standards a disaster -i doubt, whether this' plonk ' ever a kaffeebohne saw. The rooms were reasonable and are equipped with TV, telephone and balcony... Read more
