Throughout the whole year in Zihuatanejo it is quite sunny and warm with little rainfall due to the semi-tropical climate. The temperature during the whole year ranges from 20°C to 35°C. On average the warmest moth is July and the coldest is January.

Currency
The official currency in Zihuatanejo is the Mexican Peso, US dollars are also widely accepted.

Language
The local language spoken in Zihuatanejo is Spanish, but most locals can also communicate in English.

Zihuatanejo is one the biggest cities in the Mexican State Guerrero and is a city which is part of the Costa Grande. Before Zihuatanejo become the tourist resort it was a fishing village. Despite the touristic development the city maintained its traditional town feel. The name Zihuatanejoy comes from two meaning one being “the water of the yellow mountain” and the other being “place of women”. The name “place of women” also refers to “goddess women” which was determined due to a local tradition which said that these women came during afternoons to lead the sundown. The town has developed to become very popular amongst sports fisherman due to its coastal location.

Religion
Most of the people in Zihuatanejo are Christians and Roman Catholics.

Airports / Car rental
When travelling to Zihuatanejo one can travel via air to the local airport “Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa airport” which receives domestic and international flights coming in and out on a daily basis. Most hotel resorts offer a free shuttle service which will pick you up at the airport. It is also possible to rent a car at the airport; therefore it is possible to reach your resort by travelling along the highway.

Public transport
The area provides a high transportation facility in buses. There are luxury buses which provide services to travel to bigger cities for those who want to explore things outside of Zihuatanejo. These luxury buses can be found at the bus station located near the town and can be reached via taxi. There are also local buses which allow one to travel within the city, some of these lines are Autovias, Estrella do Oro, Tap and a few others. Most places to go in Zihuatanejo can also be reached by walking....

At the community amphitheater which is located near the pier where the fish market is also held, events occur every weekend and on Sundays celebrations are usually held during which it is possible to watch folklore dancing on the stage. Other events include the “Three King’s Day” celebration and the “Mardi Gras festival” during which carnival is celebrated.

There are many things to see and do in Zihuatanejo, the area is somewhat different to others as it is very relaxed and typically Mexican. Some of the main things to do and see in Zihuatanejo include the Bahía Zihuatanejo which is surrounded by a variety of beautiful beaches such as Play La Ropa and Playa las Gatas. At the beaches one can do a variety of water sports such as snorkeling and diving, boat cruises are also very recommended. One can also go fishing, playing Golf, walk around the fish market, going to the Museum of Archeology, going into town to experience the Mexican traditional flair and many other things.

We spent our honeymoon (1 week) in “La Quinta Troppo”. The arrangement, the staff and the wonderful atmosphere made it very hard to even leave the hotel. It is only a 5 minutes’ walk to the beach (where to find various restaurants) but the hotel is situated so well that you can overview the whole bay while staying away from the crowded tourists-areas right at the beach.
