The meaning of hotel stars

As fans of the Barrosa Palace and independent travellers, we were forced- owing to the booking situation- to spend five days in the Palace and two days in the Playa. We found it very interesting to learn the differences between hotel stars.
Summary: If you attach importance to small things pertaining to the ambiance and service, you will, like us, prefer the Palace.
Location
5.5Locations of Barrosa Palace, Barrosa Playa and Barrosa Park are identical. Careful: Barrosa Garden is not located right by the beach. The beach bar in Barrosa Palace is more upmarket than the others.
Service
4.0Barrosa Playa gets 4/6 from us for service but at least 5/6 for friendliness of staff.
Gastronomy
4.0The mirror makes the buffet appears a lot bigger than it actually is. All hotels have problems with beef. But who eats meat by the sea...;-)
Sport & Entertainment
4.0Well, the entertainment program is not to everybody's taste should we say. A little old fashioned and not "genuinely" Spanish.
Room
4.5If you're lucky like we were this year, then you'll have a fantastic view of the sea without people being able to look into your room. Bring candles for evenings on the balcony. Then the wine will taste better and the evening will be a success. Torres Vina Sol, a light white wine, hotel price is €14-17, €5 in the market opposite.
Tips and recommendations
September is ideal for swimming in the Atlantic- even for people who still shiver in the water when it's 22 degrees.
