Hotel review for Hotel Riu Palace Madeira

Hotel

Who wants to have beach or bathing holiday, then he is either in RIU-Palace or also in Madeira in a wrong spot. However who wants to explore the wonderful island and to be good accomodated, then he gets a good choice with the RIU-Palace. Although this not very small hotel was almost fully-booked, throughout the day one didnt have this impression. The location is in a good condition. During our stay there, there were predominantly senior people, mostly Germans and English.

Location

The hotel is situated on a small promenade with a few infrastructure on the rocky coast. One can undertake very litte walking out of the hotel. A lot of trips and hikings (however not especially cheap) were offered from TUI. Bus and taxi prices are o.k. The hotel has enough parking spots. The transfer time to the airports lasts approx. 15 minutes.

Service

Friendliness, helpfullness, competence and foreign language knowledge were absolutely great. Check-in took place pretty fast. Roomservice is in order, however not that good as the other services. As our room unfortunately didnt get any Sunshine, we asked for the other room on the second day. That was immediately possible. The moving out with the help of the hotel employees was without any problem. The defected hair-dryer was mentioned about before the breakfast and was repaired after the breakfast! Many times a day there was a free shuttle-bus to Funchal and back (transfer time about. 15 minutes).

Gastronomy

We have only used the main restaurant (every time clean and appropriate) and there especially the buffet. We have had very seldom by all our hotel experiences such a rich offer of the very delicious meals. The prices for the drinks are appropriate for the 4 star hotel level.

Sport & Entertainment

We have only visited the fitness room and used the internet, but didnt make use of other offers. Therefore the assessment is appropriate more to the perception than to the concrete services.

Room

The double-room offers enough places and are appropriately equipped (however the suites are super). The bathroom with hair dryer and bidet, is appropriate and functional. Balcone or terrace, minibar, safe (however 30 Euro for 2 weeks), telephone are available. ARD, ZDF, RTL and Sat 1 just like Euro-Sport (mostly english speaking) can be received. Hand towels are changed if requested by the guest, bedsheets are changed every 3-4 days. We have heard almost nothing from the neighbors.

Tips and recommendations

It is recommendable at least for several days to get a rental car. Then one can explore many sightseeings alone himself and not depend on really expensive offers of the travel guide. A rain jacket must be in the luggage.
