Perfect for a beach and pool vacation
Hotel
6.0
We were very pleased with the hotel. The entrance and the restaurant are air-conditioned, and everywhere is very light and friendly. The outdoor areas really stimulate the feeling of holiday and invite you to relax and enjoy yourself. There's plenty of room around the pool, on the lawn, on the terrace . . .
Overall a great hotel.
Location
5.5The hotel lies atop a mountain, about 1km away from the beach, which is a bit unfortunate. But there is of course a free bus-shuttle to the beach (the longest beach in Menorca). And the terrace (and some of the rooms) offer a beautiful view of the sea. Unlike the giant concrete bunkers right on the beach, the Hotel Son Bou is rather hidden and easy on the eyes.
Service
6.0The staff is helpful and friendly. All speak at least English, and most speak German as well. When we arrived at 9am we couldn't move right into the room. So we were able to place the luggage in a closed room and go right to the pool. The room was always clean; I'm still amazed at how they get the sand out of the rooms :)
Gastronomy
5.0
We booked half-pension, which in my opinion is more than enough, so we were able to enjoy a buffet in the morning and in the evenings. The selection was great at both times, always with fresh fruit. When something ran out, the replacement came out of the kitchen within 2 minutes.
In the evenings it was also possible to watch the cooking going on in the back of the dining room - that was interesting.
The food is mostly made for the continental palate, but there was always delicous fish, paella, and plenty of vegetables and fruits. And large amounts of sweets . . . we were always full :)
Sport & Entertainment
6.0
We actually just used the pool-area (mostly mornings) and didn't check out any entertainment or sports programs. But the pool and the grounds all around were nicely arranged and manicured. There were plenty of lounge chairs, at least we always managed to get two next to each other.
A bit beyond the tanning-lawn is a very nice area where you can lay right under the palms.
Room
4.0The rooms were bright and arranged very practically. We were lucky and got a room with a balcony and view of the sea. And the air-conditioning is certainly a good deal. Unfortunately the bathroom was very dark, uncozy, and loud. Therefore I don't give the highest ranking here.
Tips and recommendations
Anyone who wants to see much of the island should certainly hire a car. With the busses it mostly takes several changes to get to your destination. But since the island is so small, the distances between A and B with a car are short.
Hotel review marks: 6 suns = very good … 1 sun = unsatisfactory
