Thoroughly satisfied
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AQuite apart from the central location of this accommodation, what really impressed me was that they allocated an enormous apartment to me, just like I had booked, even though I was a single traveller.
As I recall it, the apartment had two bedrooms, generous lounge, small kitchen area, and a spotlessly clean bathroom.
The main complaint I have about this hotel, and the two others owned by the same people, is that there is no oven or microwave in the kitchen. Going some of the way to make up for it, however, is the washing machine in the bathroom, which means that you don't need to take a pile of laundry home -- just the ironing.
Equally, the quality of the furnishing could be higher, but I suppose you can't have it all.
Generally, I would recommend this place for its cleanliness, location, spaciousness, free internet access, and the fact that you can come and go as you please.
Basically it all boils down to a simple choice: depending upon when you make the booking, you can either fork out around £80 for a single hotel room with around £20 on top for internet access, or you get this place, bags of space, and free broadband access, for less than £60 per night. A complete no-brainer as I see it.
Location
Walk out of the front door and you are on top of the Frauenkirche. How much more central can you get?
Check-in and check-out is efficient. Beyond that, you probably won't have any dealings with the staff.
Gastronomy
The accommodation is self-catering, so you might well get no further than making a cup of tea. All the grocery shopping you will ever need is either in the Karstadt department store, the REWE in the Altmarkt Galerie, or Frida Frisch / Konsum in the Centrum.
If that doesn't grab you, then there is every form of eatery known to mankind within five minutes of this place. Kurfuerstenschaenke is recommended for Sachsen cuisine, as is the French bistro in the Taschenbergpalais. Another informal place to try is the pub, Paulaners, on the cormer of the Taschenbergpalais. Failing that, have a wander down the Muenzgasse and go in somewhere you like the look of.

High standard of cleanliness throughout.
Tips and recommendations
December through March are pretty cold in Dresden. Wrap up very well. It can go as low as minus-20 in the surrounding villages. And just because you are staying the Altstadt, don't miss out on a wander through the Neustadt. Go over the bridge to the Belle Vue Hotel (only go inside if you want to experience East German levels of attitude problem), cross the road at the golden statue of the man on horseback (Goldener Reiter) and have a wander around there in the boutiques and cafes.
