Very good hotel - second visit in June 2009 *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AVery beautiful hotel, which consisted of several buidlings, as one building had 2 floors at a maximum. The architecture was unique, it was built like a village,it fit very well into the landscape. There were guests of all nationalities, especially Eastern European guests, but we didn't have any problems. In July/August there were mostly Greek guests in the hotel, as they all escaped the heat in Tessaloniki and came to Chalkidiki, the manager told us. There were guests of all ages.
Location
The beach was reached down a long flight of stairs, personally I didn't like it, since the beach was quite narrow. It didn't disturb us, we knew it before from the hotel evaluations. We had a rental car for 14 days and drove daily in the area to another beach, because Sithonia was bursting with such wonderful sandy beaches!!!! It was great, one found lonely spots and calm bays, without nightlife district atmosphere. In the area were very few hotels, whoever wanted action, one should book another hotel. Naturally one had the opportunity, to look at closer locations with the bus, taxi, or explore with rental cars, there were good stores and shopping. The transfer time to the airport amounted to about 1 1/2 hours.
Their friendliness and helpfulness were unique!!! From the maid, over the cook, waiters, horticulturists... to the manager, very obliging!!!!! You got along very well with English but they partly also spoke other languages. And you could sort out the rest with facial expressions and gestures. Room cleaning was BEST, we got fresh towels and bathing towels every day. You got fresh bed sheets every 3 days which were colorful (just like at home). Dry cleaners service was available, room service (they brought the breakfast in bed if desired) for an extra charge. Ice cubes for the mini bar were brought every day between 4-6 pm (if desired)! A shuttle bus was available, it drove to the next town.
Gastronomy
Cleanliness in the restaurant, bars were very good. The breakfast buffet left hardly anything to be desired, everything fresh, salads, different sorts of bread, eggs with bacon, sausage, cheese, pancakes, cake, fresh fruit, cereal, freshly squeezed juices, etc. etc. In the evening also very varied, something there for everyone!!!! Watch out, the hotel had it's own bakery because also for dinner you got tasty cakes and puddings!!! I put on 2 kilos in 14 days!!! As already mentioned in the last contribution the drink prices were too expensive. A bottle of still water (1 liter) for dinner cost 2 Euros. Beer (local Mythos - tasted very good) 0.5 liters for 3.20 euros, cocktails at the bar from 6,80 to 10 euros. Drinks with half board services were too expensive nearly everywhere but we had chosen half board as we were underway by car during the day and in the evening you didn't meet strongly drunk, loud people. Everyone had to decide for themselves, with kids all inclusive was often better and cheaper.
Sport & Entertainment Unused
I can't say anything about sport, pool and entertainment during the day. They offered a varied evening program at the pool every 3rd day (included - except for the drinks). There wasn't just the Greek evening as usual but also live musicians who sang very beautiful, international songs after.
Room
We had a normal double room, were surprised, as we entered the room…. a comfortable bed (thick mattress, no self carpentered slats) very clean condition, flat screen television, mini bar, tasteful furniture, beautiful bathroom with multi-function shower, soft hand towels. The balcony was quite large with fly screen at the door. 2 German programs (ZDF and RTL). The air conditioning system was self adjustable around the clock. Bathrobes, slippers, soap, shampoo, hairdryer were also available. Since the floor consisted of tiles, it was somewhat badly soundproofed, if the neighbor over you dropped something or shoved chairs.
Tips and recommendations
The price-performance ratio was appropriate in June since there were no school holidays yet. It was about 35°C warm and more... water was about 22°C.
Nothing was going on in the surrounding area (about 6 kilometers), no other bars or shopping miles which you couldn't just reach with bus/taxi/rental car. Those who thought there was party life in the hotel should have picked another hotel.
It was perfectly suitable for people looking for peace.
