Superior, Yet Affordable
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AGreat luxury hotel in a superb location with alpine views that are unequalled. We had a suite with a 30-foot-long balcony with a breathtaking view of the Jungfrau. We had half board thatr included a huge breakfast and a five-course dinner, and got all of that (and more) for about $267 USD per day. Elsewhere in Switzerland, we paid well over $100 for dinner, so basically out hotel suite only cost about $150 USD per day. Considering the amenities and location, that was quite a deal!
Location
The Beausite Park Hotel is located in Wengen, a traffic-free town in the heart of the Jungfrau region. Only a 10-minute walk to the train station and from there it was very easy to get to Lauterbrunnen, the Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald, Murren, Interlacken and many other places. In our view, this was the best location to have as your "home base."
Super staff, mostly from Portugal. Very friendly, good knowledge of foreign languages, and ready to please. It was the best service we'd experienced in years!
Gastronomy
Great food and plenty of everything. Good variety, with a choice of two to three main courses at each evening meal ... which always included a choice for vegitarians.
Sport & Entertainment
Great pool and spa facilities that includes jacusi and steam rooms. Great after a long day of hiking along the nearby alpine trails!
Room
This was out 8th hotel in Europe on this vacation ... and by far the best! Very clean, well laid out, and with all the conveniences we could want. The bedroom was large and well-decorated; the bathroom was large and nicely equipped, and the extra sitting room allowed one of us to watch TV while the other person slept. And the large, 30-foot-wide balcony with a superb Junfrau view was priceless!
Tips and recommendations
We were here in June to enjoy the hiking. This is also a top-notch ski resort, but I can't personally comment on that. But if you love nature and breath-taking views, this is certainly the place to visit. We stayed a week, but could have easily stayed for a second. There is just so much to see and do! And don't think you might be too old to visit, as there are walks for people of all ages and physical conditions. We are both 62 and walked for 4 to 6 hours every day we were there ... and are now planning a return visit!
If you go for a week, definitely purchase a 6-day Junfraubahnen Pass. For about 140 Swiss Franks per person, that will get you unlimited access to almost all trains and lifts in the Jungfrau area. A great deal!
We were there June 8 - 15 and the weather and conditions were great. If you go in May, the trails could still be covered in snow, and if you wait until late June you might have to share the trails with lots of other tourists.
