An absolutely fabulous week at the Schlüssel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel is well situated in the small town of Beckenried in central Switzerland with some rooms offering a view of Lake Lucerne. Supported by an excellent restaurant and friendly, helpful and supportive staff this hotel epitomises the high quality of Swiss life. It provides a true blend of Swiss tradition with modern touches. It is independently owned and family run and this comes across from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart. At all times you as the guest feel that you are the number one priority and your enjoyment is top of the list. The bedrooms are simply gorgeous. All are large and individually tailored and decorated with a full range of modern facilities.
Location
The hotel is well located within the town of Beckenried. Although it is away from the lake its elevation allows views of the lake from some rooms and parts of the hotel. All around you get fantastic panoramic vies of the central Alps in close proximity. Dani the owner is more than welcome to take you anywhere in the town where there are many facilities including sporting, lake access, walks, other restaurants etc. Beckenried is also only 15 minutes drive away from beautiful and historic Lucerne and central Switzerland is well situated for travel to other European countries such as France, Germany, Austria and Italy. A small disadvantage is the hotels proximity to other residential buildings. However, you here absolutely no noise from these.
Truly excellent in all respects. Friendly, helpful, polite and efficient both in the hotel and in the restaurant. You really get the feeling that the owners Dani and Gabi make this a number one priority for anybody working at the Schlussel. All are able to speak a variety of languages and apart from their English being excellent they are more than willing to use it. The rooms are kep clean at all times and laundry services are available with a quick turn round time. Although we didn't need baby sitting services we met some people staying there there that did. They had only good things to say about the service provided. We didn't have any complaints to make but I am sure if we did they would have been handled properly.
Gastronomy
There is only one restaurant but it is very good. Unfortunately it is closed on Monday and Tuesday evenings but it is well worth visiting when open. The chef is the owner Dani. There is no menu and he cooks fresh local products each evening He is very much into meat (beef fillet, veal and venison) and you would have to go along way to find better quality, better cooked. On arrival at the table he will introduce you to tonight's menu. If there is something you don't like just let him know and he will find something else. Before the meal you can take a pre-dinner drink in the quaint deli below the restaurant. Well worth a visit. The wine selection is European only but of high quality and extensive. Gabi is the sommelier and she is more than willing to help you with your selection. Again if you don't like like it, ler her know and she will find something different. One thing for sure your selection will be well looked after on the night with your glass never running empty. After dinner you can choose from an extensive range of spirits and liquors which you can drink in the atmospheric stone cellar sitting on an enormous antique sofa. Whether you are staying at the hotel or not a visit to the restaurant is a must in our opinion.
Sport & Entertainment
There are no sport or leisure facilities at the hotel itself but there are plenty around and travel to them is not much of a problem. Walking to the beach areas of the lake is merely 10 minutes.
Room
The rooms are absolutely fantastic and close to being the best we have ever stayed in. Truly representative of the boutique theme. All are different being individually tailored and decorated. Ours was just great but we were shown all of them and they were equally impressive. They are very big combining that mix of old and modern which the Swiss seem to excel in. They are all equipped with large beds, free standing baths, separate showers, TV, DVD player wireless internet and an extensive coffee bar is situated on each floor. The rooms are kept very clean at all times. As we found out you only just have to ask if you need anything and within reason the hosts will be more than happy to accommodate you.
