Nice location; shame about the hotel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AWe came to this hotel having stayed in a far superior one in Zermatt. The contrast was unbelievable. The male receptionist (was he the owner? never found out) appeared surly, although he was willing enough, and his English was adequate. A couple of waitresses spoke English, the others barely. One waitress was very efficient, but never smiled. I would describe the food as good pub grub, but not what I expect from a 3 star hotel. We were booked for half board, and there was very little choice, and when I asked for an alternative dessert one evening, was made to feel very guilty that I did not like what was on offer. The on a couple of evenings we waited nearly 30 minutes between main course and dessert without apology or explanation. There was an a la carte restaurant, but we did not seem able to use it. Breakfast was adequate, but not a lot of choice. There was no hot food, although we found out later one could order eggs, if there was a cook available; seemed to have to wait sometime for this too. On Sunday they served Bircher muesli (a lovely swiss muesli) but not other days. Why not?? I don't think there was a change of bed linen all week, and one large towel was rather thin, but never changed all week; the other one was changed because I left it on the floor. The hotel information folder was only in German; fortunately I could understand most of it. We were asked to leave our room key with reception; we did, and they hung it on a hook board, which was available to everyone - not very secure! The pool was very nice.
