Dar al yasmin is situated in the old city from damascus and so is the hotel recommendable. It is quiet( apart from the air conditioning, but therefor you can nothing). The only annoying is, that at the Pay cash (and not us dollars) will be passed. The trick is straightforward: a wrong exchange rate with the euro or to the syp being mentioned in the tourist tapped. Make sure at the A/check Zahkungsmodalitäten (half in visa, other bar in which currency) and the best in writing of the front desk the confirm... Otherwise there are many other alternative in the old city! So you need not rely on dar al jasmine...
