Fundana Villas

Assuming you are looking for a city-break and know to appreciate an unspoiled place in the heart of the island (beaches are 15 min away by car), you could not possibly fare better. You find yourself accommodated in the vicinity of ancient olive groves, cypresses, and orange trees. The 360 degree view covers unspoiled valleys and the highest island peak, Mount Pantokrator. You can see the Albanien mountains in a distance.
The main buildings date back to Venetian times (1685). No shopping facilities here, no busy road, no beach - but all of this is accessible within 15 minutes of driving.

If you prefer authentic Greek hospitality, you have come in my opinion to the right spot. It certainly depends on how you open up yourself, though. I found it easy to communicate to the owner family on a less touristy, rather personal level. In this way, I have learned a great deal about Corfiot traditions, and how the Spathas family is connected with the history of the island for centuries.
One lady is cleaning all 12 rooms of the hotel. We came in March, the temperature dropped significantly at night, so we consequently had a rather cold first night. After talking to the owner family our room has been heated for extended hours and we never felt cold again.

The breakfast was sufficient and considerate, regarding the various breakfast traditions of guests with multicultural backgrounds.
We even had dinner in Fundana Villas, which, as far as I understand, is not regularly offered. This dinner was traditional Greek and consisted of several courses and was truly enjoyed.
Drinks can be bought (non-alcoholic, also wine, beer, and spirits) for a decent price.

The rooms are rather spacious. The equipment is basic, but sufficient. You will be able to take back groceries and cook by yourself.
The rooms reflect the authentic atmosphere of everything else.
It is essential to be aware of the fact that Fundana villas focuses on nature and tradition, not on comfort only. Consequently, you will hear frogs at night and roosters in the morning, insects might be present, as well as an abundance of flowers in spring.

Internet can be used, but there is no internet access in your room. This according to the owner will be improved in the future.
Spring is perfect for a visit. We went before the main tourist season, and we had Corfu almost to ourselves. The abundance of flowers is hard to describe.
You can walk from Fundana Villas to a nearby monastery in less than 1 hour - a pleasant and botanically very rewarding stroll through an authentic Mediterranean landscape.
