Great hotel, outstanding in every way *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AWe stayed for four days in the Engadin for cycling and chose the hotel Kronenhof Pontresina.
The driveway of the hotel reminded us of the entrance to a castle and this gets your hopes high and they are in no way not fulfilled.
The front desk was very friendly and absolutely professional. Sure, an up grade from the designated room was nice, and we didn't expect it, but we were pleased.
We had a really wonderful, spacious, classically furnished room, perfect with view of the Piz Nair area. Next to the entrance the room has a dressing room or cabinet with more than enough space even for large luggage. In the room itself, described in the counterclockwise there was a desk, a table with two chairs, matching furniture and an integrated mini bar. The tv, a flat-screen tv, and the bed under a nicely wooden pannelled ceiling. The bathroom is spacious, modern, functional and, next to the bathtub there was a shower, which we deeply appreciated.
In the room a fruit basket and mineral water are complimentary. The fruit basket is filled up during the stay, so that needs to be mentioned, as it is far beyond the standard of excellent hotels. We could always sleep with open windows and we appreciated that in particular, that it was completely quiet, not only from the outside the house but also from the inside.
We were absolutely satisfied with the room and particularly with the room service, laundry and everything. The house itself has lots of room, very spacious, very stylish, very well maintained, simply great.
We were also each evening in the pool and sauna area of the hotel. Architecture, ambiance that is on offer is perfect and matches with the actual wellness hotels of the kind. We really enjoyed the wellness area. We enjoyed this property very, very much.
After the sauna douse at 18:15 there was an apple juice, even for the tough guests in the sauna, but I had it on the lawn in front of the wellness area with the Engadina wonderful scenery.-
The only complaint: the douse should take place more than once. Though, after cycling, we really enjoyed it.
The breakfast: there is a breakfast buffet in a very splendid dining room of the house. The hall is quite clearly from the Grand Hotel Era but in excellent clean state (there is also the dinner of the house, where we never were because of the dress code, suit with bow tie).
The buffet offers a good selection of fish, seafood, cheese, fruits, yogurt, various juices, cakes, bread and rolls. Coffee is served and as always extremely friendly and attentive staff. The breakfast is absolutely great to start the day. Another plus, which we really appreciated. Guests of the hotel receive a cable car pass, at least that was the case in the summer of 2011. With this card, the cable cars can be used in the Oberebgadins area. Just summarized. There were four really great, relaxing and regenerative days in an absolutely first-class hotel with excellent, professional and friendly staff with a service standard.
