Hello 'ARENA INN' we're back again *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ATo our surprise, the hotel went from 3 to 4 stars. The condition and the cleanliness of the room didn't change. Definately not negative in any way. We can't agree with the guests that have complained about the breakfast and meals not being 4 stars or that the hotel isn't good enough. You should consider the value that you get for the price or just book the Steigenberger, Mövenpick, or Marina. For complainers, they're making the Marina into a new 7 star hotel. Maybe that's worth a trip for those people who love to complain.
The guests were of all of every type. (Age: young, middle, old, and more)
(Nationalities: mostly German speaking guests, nobody from Russia)
We had all the amenities that one would get in April/May this year and didn't miss anything again this year.
Location
Lie alsnost all the hotels in La Gouna, the Arena Inn was 3 meters in a deep laguna. It's about the flowing water. THE laguna has a flat sandy beach and is perfect for swimming. The hotel's own beach, Zeytona Beach, had a shuttle bus connection as well as a taxi boat. The beach wasn't so good but bathing was still very enjoyable. The hotel pool is heated in winter (27). Pool chairs with cushions and towels were available for free.
It's a 5 minute walk to town and there were enough shopping possibilities, restaurants, and even a museum, Aquarium, and casino.
Excursions could be booked in the hotel or at the travel agency.
The hotel staff is absolutely not snooty or snobbish, as accused several times before. They were attentive and polite. Almost all spoke English and German. Even the owner of the small shop in the hotel was friendly and polite and not pushy.
The hotel managers were in the hotel everyday and available to talk to, even if you had complaints or needed help.
Gastronomy
The was a Mediterranean style restaurant as well as a pool bar.
The quality of the food had, as in all southern countries, the appropriate temperature that may take some getting used to.
Cleanliness and hygiene were fitting to a 4 star hotel. Thefood, besides some local dishes, was partly German and partly International. The atmosphere was tasteful and tips were happily welcomed.
Sport & Entertainment
Activities and sport were average. There was a kids club and it was a 5 minute walk to the next disco in town. See more review under: Area and Surroundings.
Room
It was about 15m², a large room, furnished well enough, and clean. The hand and large towels were changed daily. Almost all rooms had a balcony. Even the streetside rooms weren't so loud. There was satellite tv in the rooms and a minibar (costed extra), as well as air conditioning available.
Tips and recommendations
Phone and cell phones were extremely expensive. Cell phone reception was actually very good. The price to value ratio in the shops was good when you negotiated. Negotiation is important, take off at least 30-40% of the price.
WE LIKED SO MOCH IN THE ARENA INN THAT WE BOOKED IT AGAIN FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2010.
