Hotel on Waterfront
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis 3* 84 room hotel is just across the road from Lake Geneva. The hotel doesn't particularly impress on first site being neither old and quaint or modern and bright. Both b&b and half board are offered and the food is good.
It is about 5 mins to city centre if using the metro which is adjacent to hotel. The hotel is actually in Ouchy and Lausanne town centre is a very tiring walk especially to the top level. Due to probable travel weariness from Devon to Lausanne by train some 17 hour ride we were not impressed by Lausanne generally and similarly the hotel although it is fair to say we had no complaints re the hotel.
Location
Lausanne was a stop off point for us before joining a Swiss Highlights tour commencing in Davos and as above unfortunately dimmed our opinion of Lausanne.
Being on the water front is an obvious plus point and there is a large promenade in both directions along the bank, just watch out for roller bladers and cyclists who whizz along the promenade. There are few shops reachable without ascending from the hotel, but there are numerous restaurants along the shoreline. I believe there are few other 3* hotels on the water front and as such the room rates are good value. I would descibe this hotel as clean and comfortable just doesn't have that extra something to really recommend it.
As with all the Swiss hotels we stayed in reception staff were extremely helpful and spoke perfect English. Especially here as it is the French speaking area and I only have minimal vocabulary of one other language - German.
Room cleaning was daily and of good service.
Gastronomy
Meals here were in a restaurant which also formed part of the pavement terrace. Locals also use the terrace area for meals where I understand perch is a favourite fish dish. The bar seemed little used as a normal bar but more to serve drinks to customers having meals. Breakfast is help yourself and slightly lacking in variety compared to other hotels but sufficient. We only had b&b here so cannot comment on evening meal. From memory the drinks here were generally slightly cheaper than other hotels.
Sport & Entertainment not available
Having arrived late evening and only staying 1 further night we didn't seek any sports activities. As far as hotel information went there didn't appear to be any. We never saw any signs of entertainment although I read somewhere that there is some occasionally.
Room
The room was reasonably spacious with safe and telephone. En suite facilities were also good. The room otherwise was similar to the rest of the hotel we saw - clean and functional but nothing really special. In spite of these comments I would finish by saying you got value for money in what is generally a rather expensive country to stay in.
Tips and recommendations
We didn't have that much time to view the area apart from a little of the promenade which stretches for a considerable distance and on the flat. Having arrived back home and going over the towns we stayed in I would suggest that you need to do some homework as there are numerous places worth a visit. Most of the hotels serve evening meals but are not cheap. Even the MacDonalds on the centre level consumes around £10 for a burger.
