Hotel Barcelo Maya Colonial

The hotel was very large, so of course not every room can be by the pool or on the beach. Besides the many people, we found the hotel to be mainly quiet. There were several shopping possibilities around and in the hotel, but the prices were higher.

All of the staff, and especially the servers were very good. All of our wishes were fulfilled without us even having to ask, and of course a bit of tipping can improve it. The room cleaning was perfect.

Besides the hotel restaurant and beach restaurant, there were multiplespecialty restaurants (Fish, Steak, Itlalian, Japanese, etc.). We were really served 'first class'. For no extra cost, we went to 5 of these specialty restaurant over our 2 week stay. We recommend that you reserve in the beginning of your say. The variety of the food and drinks (a lot of fresh juices, fruit, fish and meat) was unsurpassable.

Tehre was daily entertainment, but the entertainers were always around but not pushy. There were sporting possibilities (water polo, football, tennis, diving, golf, ping pong, etc.). Lounge chairs were plentiful and available. The beach was made of fine white sand.
If you wanted to, you could go on the internet for an extra fee.

The rooms were large enough and had a lot of space. Every room had a balcony or terrace. There were international tv channels, minibar, which with 'A.I.' was filled daily for free, and everythign else you could expect in a hotel room. Cleanliness and room service were commented on above.

If you don't smoke, make sure you book the appropriate room. That will spare you (like we had to because of the smell), a room change.
Mobile phones should work theoretically, but only with certain companies. We still didn't have any problems with calls (network problems). Text messages went back and forth without problems.
