A charming combination of traditional and modern
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AHotel Bellavista is a charming, medium-sized hotel, beautifully appointed in the "Swiss" style with lots of local wood, warm fabrics and furniture that's actually comfortable to sit upon. The rooms are generously laid out and have modern conveniences like a safe, a mini-bar and a sound system. Our family suite was perfect for our family of four and included a generous bedroom for the adults, a smaller one for our children and a living area that joined the two in which we could really relax and spread out. For the kids, there was a ping pong table, a "fussball" table and a play area on a lower level. For my husband, there was a treadmill and a place to watch the Tour de France in quiet. Wireless was free (!!) in the hotel's elegant lobby area which we used frequently.
Location
Hotel Bellavista is situated on a hill just a few minutes away from the center of town. Its sits quietly away from the noise and bustle of the main street, the only sound being the occasional Gornegrat Bahn that passes nearby. Hotel Bellavista was within easy walking distance of restaurants, trains station, grocery store church and shops. For us, it was the ideal location.
Remember the days when hotels were actually owned by people instead of huge corporations? When the hotel staff actually knew and cared about who you were and what your needs were? This type of care and much more, awaits you at Hotel Bellavista. Being taken care of by the G. Family was like being a treasured guest in someone's house. They made us feel at home, they called our rambunctious children charming and did everything to make us feel comfortable.
Remembering what we liked for breakfast, giving the children their favorite table for meals, asking us about our day's excursion, all made us feel welcome. Small details, such as homemade cookies upon arrival, a nut "torte" to take home with us, and extra pillows upon request, were very much appreciated.
Gastronomy
Breakfast at Hotel Bellavista is, in a word, delicious! A sumptous array of meats, breads, fruits, cheeses, cereals are available every morning. A fresh-squeezed orange juice maker delighted our children who took turns making juice for us. Tuesday nights are "raclette" night, a specialty of the region consisting of melted cheese and potatoes. We have a lovely meal, complete with salad and dried meats, and enjoyed some good Swiss wine. Our children's only disappointment was that there wasn't "raclette" every night.
Sport & Entertainment
While the hotel is everything charming about what is Swiss, the Wellness Center at Hotel Bellavista reflects everything that is wonderful about modern Swiss design. A mixture of native materials--local stone and wood--mixed with truly modern materials as glass and steel, the Wellness Center was a haven of relaxation. It includes a solarium, a relaxation room, a sauna, steam bath, lavish showers and whirlpool tubs.
Room
Clean, generous sized, comfortable, all with views of the Matterhorn. Our balcony was a preferred place for my husband and I after the kids were in bed. We often sat outside and enjoyed a glass of single malt scotch before bed.
