A delightful stay in the mountains
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis is a small, family-run hotel a few blocks off the main street of Wengen. Very reasonable prices for lodging in the Swiss Alps. Wonderful location within the town. Attractive exterior and typical Swiss chalet-type building. Plants and flowers provide a lush and manicured grounds area. Interior is cozy and warmly furnished. Nice lounge area. I believe there are about 20 rooms and 3-4 stories. Well-maintained and clean. Breakfast included with lodging, and dinner is available. Friendly owners. Free pick-up to and from the train station, so no need to worry about carrying luggage through the streets. Owners speak fluent English. Guests came from many countries both within and outside of Europe. All ages, including children, will enjoy their stay here.
Location
Hotel is close to the train and main street (perhaps a 7 minute walk), yet is in a quiet part of the town where the only sounds are the delightful clang of cowbells. Higher up than most of the other hotels in Wengen and no buildings in front, so the view (so gorgeous!) is unobstructed. Situated on a delightful street with quaint homes, a bakery, and a diminuitive mountain church. The cable car is only a 3-4 minute walk from the hotel. Easy access to all of the attractions in the Bernese Oberland area.
Welcoming and friendly owners. They go out of their way to help and guide their guests. As hikers and skiers themselves, they are very knowledgeable about the trails in the area. Gave great advice on surrounding attractions and provided daily weather forecasts. Satisfaction of the guest in all areas was clearly important to these hosts. We felt taken care of.
Gastronomy
Ah, the food. Dinner (half-board) consisted of gourmet-type four-course meals beautifully presented. Specialize in fish dishes, but also serve wonderful meat and vegetable dinners. Amazingly reasonable price for the quality and quantity, and for Switzerland. If not satisfied with the menu, can substitute. Kid-friendly meals are available. Dining room is clean and comfortable with great views of the mountains.
Sport & Entertainment not available
No spa facilities, golf, boutiques, or pool--thank goodness! Just a warm and cozy chalet in the most stunning mountain environment imaginable.
Room
Elevator to the floors. Rooms are airy, large and comfortable. Minibar and cable tv. No coffee machine, although I believe one can take coffee from the restaurant up to the room. Superior south-facing (mountain facing) rooms have a full wall of glass through which to view the spectacular scenery, and have delightful balconies. Large bathrooms. Very clean. Very quiet. Comfortable beds.
