A 'gem' in West Bali
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AWe live in Ubud, Bali and wanted to have a break at the beach away from the mad tourist places and to experience Bali at its multi-cultural best. Well, we found it here, at Candikusuma Beach Villa, one of the cleanest, friendliest and most hospitable hotels we have found in Bali so far.
We were accompanied on this trip by our son & his wife so we stayed in 2 of the gorgeous 'Bugis' style wooden houses (on stilts) that faced directly onto the fishing bay of Candikusuma. Watching the sea from our spacious balcony/veranda, was better than any TV. There were fishing boats going about their daily work, fishermen & women bringing in their nets & the catch of the day as well as the lights from the island of Java to watch after the sun had set.
The bed was great, a nice firm & very comfortable queen sized bed, an AC as well as opening windows to hear the sounds of the surf & the waves as you drifted to sleep and a large, living 'space' with floor cushions & table. Also included was drinking water, and WONDERFUL hospitality of the staff. We (honestly!!) were treated so well we will be going back soon.
Breakfast was included (we made a last minute booking so the regular cook had time off) and the staff made sure that this was amply made up for with snacks of fresh fruit from the many growing on this huge 'estate'.
We were greeted with a whole, fresh young coconut drink which we enjoyed with the wind in our hair (great sea breezes here) on the balcony.
They have a fantastic range of coffee here as well and the 'snack' of Pisang goreng (fried split banana + fresh grated coconut & palm sugar) was a treat.
The gardens, lawn & facilities were just what was needed for a R&R beach holiday. Pool was clean, well maintained & the pool towels of a generous size & quality.
Staff were not intrusive BUT, knowledgeable, helpful and we were made to feel like a part of the family/community which is made up of many religions, Hindu, Christian, Muslim.
We visited the local Goa Maria Catholic church nearby a wonderful fusion of Hindu Bali & Catholic architecture. Our donation for their ongoing restoration work was greatly appreciated but not asked for :)
I almost feel a touch of regret praising this 'find' as we would like to keep it for ourselves, selfish but true. Highly recommended ++
Location

Sport & Entertainment
Good beach walks at low tide, watching the fishers bring in their catch, fine black sand beach.
Room
Like sleeping in a wooden sauna without the heat, AC good and a lovely room with opening windows & the sound of the water.
Tips and recommendations
Plan a fishing trip, we ended up being too lazy to take advantage!
