An honest and indifferent review... *

We booked all inclusive at this hotel, even though we were also looking at Caribbean World in Djerba (it's called Caribbean World Thalasso) and the travel agent showed us other reviews. Important: there are two Caribbean Worlds in Djerba- check to see which one is which. This one had neither a bar in the pool or a slide. We met another couple that had meant to go to the other hotel too. Maybe my review comes accross as dissapointed, but I try to be as objective as possible.
## Overall condition ##
It had 3 stars for Tunisian standards, but not for European. It was in need of a renovation. The walls needed to be cleaned, dented trash cans, holes, etc. It was cleaned and there were many employees, but still dirty. For example, the windows looked as if they weren't cleaned for 5 years, and there was dust under the tables, etc. The trash was emptied daily. The hotel was in an overall delapitated state, it seemed as if it could fall apart. See my pictures.
## Other services ##
With three meals a day there were drinks and pizza and crepe choices daily. The pizza wasn't the best, but the crepes were very good and made fresh to order. The drinks tasted different at the bar. There wasn't any juice, just some kind of instant drink (kiwi, orange, pineapple), which weren't particularly good. Cola and Fanta weren't brand names and tasted bad, sometimes they were flat. We mostly enjoyed the special mixed drinks they made for us, they were the most drinkable. To the alcoholic drinks:
Positive: There were some alcohols, beer and wine. The alcohol was bottled and mostly name brands. For hygenic reasons, I didn't use any ice, and room temperature schnaps itsn't the best. So that was out. The beer was bad, so was the wine. Alcoholic mixed drinks weren't that great either. Whoever wants to get at least a 'buzz' here on holiday is in the wrong place...
## Women ##
If you have even a half attractive girlfriend with you, you can't leave her alone in the hotel without her being bothered and hit on (whether it be from the masseurs or Tunisian guests). For single women who don't want to put a lot of effort into being attractive and like to romp around, then this place would be recommendable...
## French ##
The hotel guests were mostly French, but that wasn't a problem because they were mostly friendly, like some German guests. Many of the French guests also spoke some German. Everyone's behaviour was good to very good, there wasn't even a bad look at someone.
## Age Groups ##
Overall mixed, but a lot of older guests. Mostly French couples between 50-60, but also a a few families and younger couples.
Location
There was a small supermarket by the hotel (ok), a spa area (didn't use it), ping pong tables (worn out), a pool (broken tiles), a bow and arrow shooting range (ok), and a tennis court (didn't use). The beach was right by the hotel and there were free lounge chairs. Laying out on the beach was OK- the beach bar didn't have coffee, and the alcohol costed extra, even for guests that booked all inclusive.
The ocean was very dirty, there was algae that was 2 meters long in the water. In the water there were also sharp rocks that are dangerous for your feet, I recommend water shoes.
Outside of the hotel area, there wasn't anything else around.
There were some excursion possibilities (camel and horseback riding, quads, paragliding, bananaboat) but it all costed extra and the sellers were sort of pushy and in the hotel area.
Transfer time from the airport took at least an hour.
Service was like a double edged sword.
## Positive ##
The entertainment staff put in a lot of effort, were always in a good mood, and tried to include everyone. Even handicapped guests (there was a whole group there) weren't treated differently, which I found to be very positive.
Most of the bartenders made jokes and were friendly, you never had to wait long for a drink or a crepe. You could order well because they understood different languages. But I still felt they didn't put their whole heart into it.
## Negative ##
Unfortunately there were also some unfriendly bartenders and in the restaurant one of the cooks banged the food on his plate, that took some of the enjoyment away. There were als a lot of extra services in the hotel that costed extra (tatoos, massages, photos, etc.) and the sellers were really annoying. You couldn't enjoy the pool or beach for evan a half hour before someone came to bother you- especially the women travelling alone should be double warned ;)
The cleaning lady was ok.
Gastronomy
All in all: a catastrophe. I've been in many (European) hotels with 2-3 stars, but i've never experienced anything like this. The silverware was dirty, partially wet. Table cloths were dirty. There was almost no variety in the food, restaurants, tasted flavorless. 'Theme restaurant highlight': there was actually a sauce made out of ketchup and yogurt!
Sport & Entertainment
Entertainment had a lot of effoert put into it and had variety. If you like this kind of thing, it was good. If you don't, then be warned: it'll annoy you. The pool was renovated in some places, but there were many broken tiles, and the pool hygiene looked questionable.
Room
Was equal to south European standards, so nothing special but not too bad.
Tips and recommendations
I'm glad that I got a Hepatitis shot before I went...
