Fantastic holiday *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AEarly in October, the Royal area was very pleasant. There were just a few guests, the beach was almost empty in the afternoon, it was very quiet, and the atmosphere in the evening was pleasant. There were mainly Spanish, Portuguese and a few German guests in the Royal area. In the normal area, there was more going on.
Location
The hotel was about 15-20min away from the airport. There was nothing available right nearby, except for a supermarket (about 10min after the ramp) which was also cheaper than the stores in the hotel. We stayed in villa 44 which was by the pool. Since there were generally few guests here, we can't really say something about the noise level. The rooms weren't soundproof at all.
The staff was friendly and had always a smile on their lips. In the Royal, many staff members didn't even speak English, so communication was a bit difficult, but it still worked quite well when we used gestures :-) The room cleaning was OK, but it got worse after the 6th or 7th day. The rooms were still clean, there were just a few details which didn't bother us anyway. The cleaning staff seemed to accidentally have wrapped our pajamas in the bedsheets when they were changing them. We immediately went to the guest service and complained, but they unfortunately didn't find it anymore. We were then offered a coupon.

For breakfast, you could order hot sandwiches or omelets a la carte. Cold meat, cheese, fruit, freshly squeezed juices, pancakes, various sorts of bread, muesli, cereals, etc...were available on the buffet. In the evening, we visited the theme restaurants, but we also went to the buffet in the normal area once: very loud, a lot going on, good food, but the atmosphere was a matter of taste.
Sport & Entertainment
We only once went to the big pool which was located almost right on the beach. There, we had a really nice view of the sea. The chairs were very nice, especially for people who liked lying in the shade. Besides, you couldn't really sunbathe here. But it was very pleasant for lying/sleeping here. The beach: As mentioned above, there were more than enough beach chairs available. The palms also provided a lot of shade, in case you didn't get an umbrella. There was seaweed, but that didn't bother us because we had known that from the beginning, so it wasn't a big surprise. Showers were available.
Room
The room was very spacious. The TV had many American stations but also a few German ones. The mini bar was daily replenished with: Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7 Up, water, beer. There was also a coffee machine available. Coffee was replenished every day too, in case you had run out of it. We used the big tub in the room, it was very nice, but it took quite long till it was full because the water came out rather slowly. The air conditioning could also have been turned on during the night as it wasn't loud. There was a hammock on the balcony for relaxing.
Tips and recommendations
The cell phone reception was good. WLAN was available in the room. We brought our own laptop.
