The hotel is not worth the price *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel itself seemed more like a mediocre pension. You book the room with breakfast. These are very different equipped; see below. The main building is a bathroom rather small stone building, just an, two rooms you can accessible by a flight of steps. The house itself is a large pebble parking. Officially well designed for the handicapped, but based purely on the pebbles, which you can walk to the bedrooms, I wouldn't recommend it, with handicaps this place to visit. Next to the main building there was our room; this was in a U-shaped Seitenhof. I guess it to see that it is, the former stables sometime in the last century converted.
Location
The hotel is located on the outskirts of the small town Kingussie on a small hill. Within an hour to Loch Ness; in a half in Inverness. Although behind the house the local train tracks runs (although through a small hill separated), it is in a very quiet location. Kingussie does not have much to offer; a nice walk is the place was worth it. There are two small mom and pop shops in Passau (500 m? -Rather less). The allowed us some are a little away, which also adds to the privacy. However, there is the small hill up to the hotel no lighting, so a moving around dark quite difficult.
The first disillusionment was the owner, Myra itself. We arrived for 4 there and each of us found your welcome as extremely GROUPER. No addressing me; no wonder whether we went well. We were firmly every day (as previous on your confirmation of us) asked if we wanted to eat in their restaurant in the evening. The first night we informed, but after bringing based on the experience. See below for details. As far as we have seen, no German was spoken. It was not too much of a problem as our English is pretty good. "Friendly" and "attentive" as the service in the catalog, is spoken about something else. See also below.
Gastronomy
I'm not allowed quote from the official description (see HolidayCheck): "The restaurant in the area is known for its excellent cuisine. The staff is a concern, guests can enjoy an excellent service,". Unfortunately, we cannot confirm these points. My husband and I went for an early, when we sat down in the restaurant in the evening. As in the description as is the bar was highly praised have to, we thought that we first an aperitif while we waited on our parents. Myra and another waitress went by us several times, without us to note. 3rd time were rude two whet with us the invitation to appoint slammed' on the table. We MEADOWS friendly that we first like would ask for a drink. Our way to the "Loungeroom", the really nicely decorated is, we had to find ourselves though; if the service would have gone, we would have an aperitif at the cat table in the hall to the bar. After 10 minutes the woman came back in the lounge and left us again the whet we had taken of course not from the cat table: -) As soon as my parents were 2200 )and in front of the food also wanted a drink, we were again (this time around some nuances rude) were asked to hand, but now to order. The food itself was adequate but "nothing to write home about" as the english says. The attribute "exquisite" (quotation catalog) is always in the eye of the beholder. The fish was ok, the meat but very tough, all in all quite poor for the proud rates of 15 to 20 pounds per main course. Our problem was more like, that we didn't get full were ... And therefore still 2x dessert upstairs. At the end of (it was shortly after nine) we were with hustle up, the tables and always pampigerer Umrücken face to get our more orders made it very clear that we are now more welcome. Therefore, the next evening we decided also to visit another restaurant. The same pity repeated at breakfast the next morning. I Truly outrageous the official description that "bread and rolls in the kitchen made fresh". I have stayed in an old hotel reviews read that the fresh bread "found" from than the guests visited the hotel. Now, we had as well. Each given exactly one (! ) slice of cold (! ) Toast laid out and you have to order eggs just got aware you always only one, whether you are a fried eggs or cooked. In addition, there was a poor buffet with pear and canned fruit, jam in small Billigpackungen, a little yoghurt (this however only once ... He was according to consumption not restocked) and cereal. Breakfast is served from 8.15 to 9.30 am Dare you (like me) 9.20 hours again enquire if it could need fresh coffee (from itself there anyway nothing), it is the only reluctantly met. All in all we had several times the impression that a burden for the hostess ... Especially after we offer, number of times at your her to eat, ausschlugen.
Sport & Entertainment
Pool or similar. absent. Internet fee and then to the device limited (for example, can not on a laptop and a iPhone be used).
Room
If you're on a mismatced old English style, ok. That the room type, as advertised, "elegant" was, I can't confirm. The whole room just seemed quite dated and worn. The "Heavenly bed" consists of two 1,4 m wide mattresses inferior quality the co (! ) lot. On the second night we did the second on the floor separated gehievt to sleep. After the first night we both the tight bed as well as the rückenfeindliche lumpy softness almost killed both mattresses. The on-bottom sleep was of course the disadvantage that one every half an hour from cold woke up. As evening at 10 p.m. Rigorously observe all (! ) heaters turned off. Without the small heater but my father had in the room, we would have freezed. There was a (empty) mini bar fridge, he also had to use in private food could use, wardrobe-porch as from the 70 's (as most of the rooms ... ) , as well as a new utilise with all four programs (ok, but who wants to watch TV in the highlands. ) Overall it looked just wanted to but unable ... The room cleaning was to make bed and the empty trash. It was not a bit tidy (single Papierschnippel the end were exactly like at the floor, and one of the best we've stayed move), nor vacuumed, nor had someone in the last two years before our visit the effort was made to remove the cobwebs on the door handles adds. The bathroom has a large bathtub with three mildewed Gummitieren (The query we have had was: why partiular, if you know arriving by two of us? Respectively. IF we'd brought the kids: If you about the edges of the black-geschimmelten partiular in their mouth? ). Over the bath had a shower that was completely Futile however, since the beam, starring, not on the you a clot also came. Also we had probably considering the own little shampoo and shower gel vial were never refilled to the of previous guests enjoy complimentary toiletries, the deliberately there were left (my parents had the same phenomenon in her bathroom).
Tips and recommendations
Overall I would at a B&B "a very nice given. But, it is 4 (in words: four) star hotel should be, I would NOT recommend it with a clear conscience. We paid per night for the cheaper rooms about 90 quid. Even the IBIS in Edinburgh (downtown! ) Was cheaper and shoulders. Only suggestion I would suggest, look for good (if possible) an alternative.
