A Botanist's trip to Corfu
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A APerhaps not up to Hilton standards but we were very comfortable in clean surroundings with a lovely room and balcony on 6th floor with fantastic view. Had been warned about the proximity of the airport but did not find this intrusive - in fact more interesting. Staff seemed a bit reserved at first but when I took ill and had to be hospitalised they could not have been more helpful to my mhusband and myself and on my return to the Hotel all was done for my comfort for the rest of the holiday.
Location
Lift to beach was great and nice to be able to swim there. Local shops and cafes in Kanoni were good and again people there very helpful.
Local buses were very cheap and good value and on the whole very reliable timing.
We thought Corfu town was a bit down at heel but recommend that visitors from any country visit the British Cemetery to see the fantastic collection of wild orchids there as well as the general state of the Cemetery which is kept in a 'controlled' wild way by a lovely gentleman, George.
As mentioned earlier first impression was reception staff a bit reserved but then we arrived during the night and getting to know them found them very helpful but we did feel that there could have been more information on the island and transport etc available in the rooms. Cleaning was very well done and with consideration when I was ill. Reception very quickly put me in touch with a Doctor to discuss my condition when I first fell ill and were helpful to my husband when he had to contact Hospital from Hotel. No complaints.
Gastronomy
We were well pleased with the Restaurant and Pool Bar and found the quality and selection of food very good again there was always something suitable for me on my return from Hospital on a restricted diet. Tipping we just done as we would normally do.
Sport & Entertainment Unused
Only used beach and no complaints there.
Room
Room good and confortable but it would have been nice to have tea making facilities in room. If there were any available for guests we did not find them.
Safe and Telephone both worked well.
Tips and recommendations
having to make several calls to Insurance Company and Hospital, we were agreeably surprising with thye cost of our telephone calls from Hotel. Found it difficult to get a mobile 'phone signal.
