Fantastic Hotel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe Hotel was spotless and the food fantastic! Real eco friendly and caring staff too. We were half-board and were very happy with this deal through Thomson Holidays.
Guests were mainly German and the hotel seemed to cater mostly for them, but being Scottish, this did not put us off (no reserving the loungers with towels) The TV was tuned for Greek & German stations with only 2 English speaking channels (BBC news and some other obscure channel) which was a big let down if you wanted to watch late at night.
Location
The location was a concern for my wife & i because we picked the hotel first before we looked at Malia. To our horror, we discovered Malia is the party hotspot of Crete. Being in our 40s (young at heart) we thought this might be a problem. Not so! The hotel is about a 1km from the Malia strip and it was perfect for drifting in and out off. Old Malia is a must if your not into the clubbing scene.
The hotel has its own private beach which is at the bottom of the gardens and is so very clean with its own lifeguard. Really top location.
Staff were perfect and spoke English very well. They will even teach you Greek to make things more pleasant. Something all visitors to another country should do!
Gastronomy
Food was out of this world! A little rich for our tummies but a great selection of local dishes and beyond. Did seem to cater more for German tastes again but the local Tavernas are but a step away
Sport & Entertainment
Entertainment was rather poor. The anime team were very good but everything is mimed and again.looking toward the German/europop types.
Shame.
Room
The room was first class. Everything you need to survive a holiday.
Tips and recommendations
The weather was fantastic while we were there (May)
Local car/quad hire can be a minefield. Be careful not to be conned! We hired a large quad just for fun and went all the way to Ag Nik, Sissi etc.fantastic experience as we came back through the mountains and away from the beaten tracks. We loved it and the local villages that look deserted were full of really nice people. Thats the Crete we went to see.
