Beautiful hotel, highly recommended
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AI was travelling with my mother and arrived following an excellent Nile cruise.
Dana Beach is a huge hotel with stunningly beautiful grounds - I think there are something like 6000 rooms!!
Everything was included - drinks were refilled once they were half way down!Neither my mother or I drink alcohol so I can't comment on that side of things, but the other guests seemed perfectly happy with their cocktails etc.
Most of the guests are German - I think there were only about 2 or 3 other English parties there when we were, which can be a little isolating, but all the staff speak English and seemed delighted to be able to practice their language skills.
Seemed to be lots of younger couples as well as families - hotel was excellent for children - kids club ran every night and there was a playground and special kids pool.
Location
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful - a sea water lake runs through them and you can get a little boat down to the beach, or its only a five minute walk. There are lots of shops opposite and also the Havana club, which I didn't visit myself.
About 20 minutes from town, a shuttle bus is available for 7 euros, however we booked a night out tour with our rep Waleed (who was excellent and very friendly!) which allowed us to see the town easily.
We also booked a trip to the island of Mahmaya which was certainly beautiful, but we felt over-priced.
Other trips such as submarines, Cairo, Luxor and desert safari were available.
Staff were all friendly and tried their upmost to please you.
Staff seemed to mainly speak English and German, some Russian and French also.
Grounds and rooms were spotlessly clean and our room cleaner, Mohammad, worked day and night - well-deserving of a tip!!
Gastronomy
There were many different restaurants - German, Italian, Asian as well as two main ones serving many types of foods.
We normally ate in the Castello restaurant and all I can say is I am one of the fussiest eaters ever and I found plenty to eat at all meals.
Wonderul sweets as well - cakes were made to celebrate Holland's defeat of Brazil!
Sport & Entertainment
4 pools - two large ones, one kids one with slides etc and a smaller one with fountain which we spent most time in as it was quieter.
Live singer in the Island bar during summer every night - was very enjoyable and there was an different animation show every night, after the childrens disco.
Lots of sunbeds - never had a problem getting one at any time!
Room
Excellent- we were upgraded upon arrival to a suite - allegedly as compensation for England's failure at football!
So no complaints with the room at all, was spacious and both bedrooms had their own balcony.
Tips and recommendations
Overall I would highly recommend this hotel - as long as your not looking to make small talk all day as you may well be the only English in the hotel!
Very hot in later June/July but there was a breeze so I didn't find it too bad.
If your looking for a relaxing beach holiday in beautiful surroundings with friendly staff, come to Dana Beach....
