One of the best family hotel I have ever been to
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AMy name is Asia. I come from Poland and together with my family and friends have visited Dawar el Omda between 11 and 25 August, 2007. We are all very satisfied with the hotel. It is a small (in comparison to other hotels), family hotel with 120 rooms (in the beginningthere were 64 rooms). The condition of the hotel is excellent, very clean and cozy. It is very arabic stylish and the view from the hotel balcony to the hotel itself, the lagoon or the Red Sea at night took our breaths away each time:) We have chosen all-inclusive version and that was ok. There was breakfast between 7 and 10. 30, lunch 12. 30-14. 30, cake and coffee 15. 30-16. 30 and dinner 19. 00-22. 30. Food was fine. Nobody got sick. The hotel is family friendly so there were a lot of families with children from different countries: Poland, Germany, Russia, England, Czech republic, Egypt...I travel a lot with my boyfriend but nowhere could we find such friendly but not impudent staff.
Location
Dawar el Omda is situated in Down Town. That means when you leave the hotel doors you are in the centre. But what we also expected and knew before we arrived, there is hardly ever loud in the centre. It is not recommended to swim in the lagoon (although some do it) the connection with thehotel Zeytona beach is also very comfortable. Next to the hotel at the next one (Sultan Bey Hotel) there is a boat waiting every hour to take you to the beach. It takes around 3 minutes to get there, while by walking about half an hour. To get to the other beaches like Mangroovy Beach where you can try Kitesurfing one needs to take a bus from Downtown and it takes around 15-20 min. The shopping centre, bars, cafes and restaurants are just few steps away from you. Nightclubs, heh. I thought being 32 and really full energetic I will go to the nightclubs every night. Actually, after Kitesurfing I was terribly tired and had no strength to do anything else. Especially at this time a year when inEgypt it is really hot. It takes 30 min to get to the airport. A neighbouring hotel is Sultan Bey. A very good one, where we spent our first night, but to be honest Dawar has better more cosy atmosphere. Twice a week Polish tourists can expect a resident to learn anything they need as well as to pay for extra excursions. Public transport is really cheap. You take a Tok Tok or a Taxi for 5 EGP per person (2, 5 PLN; 0, 8 Dollar) to get anywhere you wish. Bus costs 5 EGP daily (you can travel whole day by bus or by boat) or 15 EGP per week. They go according to the line every 15, 20 or 30 min.
That's what I was waiting for to write. The staff at the hotel is super friendly but not impudent (excluding one of the waiter who was really annoying but after one week of our stay went for 2-week holiday, I do not mention the name but you know when we visited the hotel so a blue-eyed boy, stop it! Your tricks are not funny at all!). The waiters, the staff at the reception, pool or people who took care of our rooms. It is just amazing how people can be friendly, helpful and in the same time (in Arabic country!) co gentle and patient. El Gouna is just torn away from some other reality:) Here if it is possible I would like to thank all the waiters who helped us all the time and were so nice to all of us. Especially thank you to: Ramon, Abanoob, Michael and other waiters for this 2 week time pleasure and the surprise at the last day party, Bob from the reception for his willingnes to help and competence, Mohamed who made Kala and my brother's room each day more beautiful. Thank you people! We will never forget you:):):)
Gastronomy
There is one restaurant where you can eat all your dishes and the bar at the pool with the local alcoholic drinks in the all-inclusive option for free. Here, I would only complain at the breakfast quality. There was a lot but unfortunately exactly the same each day. Lunch and dinner were always warm and very good. Nobody from us got sick (also due to a shot of strong alcohol drunk each time after a meal:) The staff takes care of the restaurant and a bar to be clean and they really are! Cuisine is European.
Sport & Entertainment
There is Billiard, and lots of sports which can be done at the beach: Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, Wakesurfing, Snorkling etc...Unfortunately almost nothing at the swimming pool...
Room
The rooms are medium sized and very clean. They are cleaned every day. There is a mini bar, safe, telephone, TV and balcony.
Tips and recommendations
Be prepared for the real heat in August. However, according to the region it is not that bad. Don't forget your sun protection. For water sports minimum 50 UV protection!
