Perfect dream holiday *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe Delfino Blu Boutique Hotel fulfills what it promises on the homepage every second. A small, completely nice family hotel in a Venetian style. Excellent condition, perfectly kept, 7 years old, we had booked half-board. The approximately 10 rooms and 5 suites were booked mainly by British, but Germans, French, Dutch, Italians were also guests in the hotel. Families with teenagers during the first week, families with children between 5 and 15 years old during the second week, but all well-educated and therefore no problems.
Location
Agios Stefanos is a quiet village on the northwest coast of Corfu (Note, a place with the same name also exists in the northeast of the island). To the capital and the airport in Corfu (Kerkyra) it is 1 hour by car. We were picked up from the airport by taxi (60, - €), it was all very well organised by the hotel.
The hotel is situated on the great, clean, shallow and long sandy beach of Agios Stefanos. In the village there are no giant hotels, only a few medium-sized ones and studios. Except for a few small food markets, there are hardly any shops, but along the main road a few nice cocktail bars (Bar38) and the usual pubs. Only one ATM in town that does not always work.
Excursions can be done along the west coast of Agios Georgios and Paleskestritia to Kerkyra (Achillion of Empress Elisabeth of Austria) and to the north east, with the highest mountain on the island, the Canal d'Amour and Cape Drasits, comfortable with a moped or car.
Starting from the owner Kostas on to the receptionist and waiters, to the beach keeper and the cleaning lady, they were all very friendly, always had a nice smile on their faces and ready for a short, but unobtrusive small talk. Good English is spoken. Very nice was the sweet good night greeting, which the little daughter of the house placed on the bed during dinner. All requests, such as for a taxi, motorbike, car, etc. were done well and promptly.
Gastronomy
A real dream is the romantic terrace for breakfast or dinner, everything is always well maintained. Sumptuous buffet breakfast with Greek, British and continental dishes, right up to fresh fruit juice and sparkling wine, coffee, tea, fruit, cereals.
We were very curious about the half-board dinner, but with the 5-course menu for every evening, we had to force ourselves to actually try out one of the taverns, because all the dishes were very tasty. With more than 50 courses in 10 days, the taste was always perfect. There was always Greek soup, various salads, a selection of 3 hot or cold Greek entrees, 3 main dishes (Greek / seafood, continental, pasta). The house wine was very tasty and the atmosphere, accompanied by a nice musician, pleasant. If the food had not been to our liking, we could also have picked the a la carte dishes and the fact that many external guests came to visit the a la carte restaurant, speaks for the quality and the great atmosphere. Not to mention the wonderful sunsets at dinner with a sea view.
Sport & Entertainment
The swimming pool was very nice, optimal for a recovering evening on the beach. During the day the sunbathing area was usually occupied by families and children. At the pool bar you could get delicious cocktails, etc.
With this beautiful sandy beach there was no reason for us to stay at the pool, as the cleanliness and temperature of the sea were top. In two days there were wonderful waves to let off some steam in, otherwise it was quiet and fine for swimming. Even long walks on the beach were very relaxing.
Loungers and sun umbrellas were sufficient both by the pool and at the sea, and, with the beach towels, included in the price.
Boats could be rented or you could let yourself be pulled by various devices. Only the jet ski was private and not for rent, too bad. For tasty snacks and ice cream the shady beach bar was perfect, there you could also clear the salt off your skin.
Room
We had booked a Junior Suite because the other rooms could only be booked via an English travel agent during high season. So we had a small kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, etc. The room was decorated very tastefully, with a sofa and flat screen TV,
the wonderful bed, air conditioning was quiet and pleasant, Internet access would have been available, safe, nice, sufficient bathroom with shower and toilet. Balcony in the suite very large, but we made almost no use of it.
Rooms were always very clean, bed linen and towels fresh every day. Very suitable for feeling at ease.
