Relaxing holiday in a pleasant atmosphere *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe Gran Tacande was architecturally a very appealing building. It was made up out of multiple buildings in a Spanish colonial style which was arranged L-shaped arround the pool area and the big outside terrace. The rooms were big enough with a couch corner and balcony. In the bathroom we especially liked the double wash basin and the big shower. About cleanliness there was nothing to complain about. Used towels were changed again in the evening. The holiday guests were mostly German and Spanish, also a few British, Russian, Italian, Belgian and Dutch guests. Very positive we found the greeting at arrivial with a detailed explanation of the hotel. A lot of the staff of the hotel spoke German.
Location
What was very pleasant was that the transfer from the airport only took about 20 minutes. The location of the hotel was very good. To the beach you only had to go down some stairs from the sunbathing terrace and then across the street.
The staff on the whole were very friendly. At breakfast or dinner on the terrace you could enjoy your food in peace. The waiters always had an eye for everything.
The dirty plates were wuickly cleared away and the tables newly layd without it getting hectic.
Gastronomy
The hotel seemed to have three restaurants. The main restaurant with a beautiful outside terrace, the pool restaurant also with a terrace and an a la carte restaurant. The pool restaurant and the a la carte restaurant we didn't use. For breakfast and dinner we ate outside. It wasn't at all a problem to get a table, there weren't any long waiting lines. The breakfast buffet was very extensive and tasty, especially the freshly prepared omelettes. In the evenings the huge variation went on the account of the quality a bit. All the salads at the apetizer buffet tasted pretty much the same, the finished dishes at the warm buffet lacked spice and finesse. Still you could eat well if you got yourself fish or meat a la minute prepared at the grill station (3 sorts of the fish and 3 sorts of meat each).
Sport & Entertainment
For peace seeking the hotel Tacande was ideal because you didn't always get disturbed by constant music at the pool and loud activities. There were enough beach chairs and umbrellas. The pool (saltwater) were very well kept and pleasantly tempartured.
Room
The rooms were very spacious with a big double bed. Very pleasant was the air conditioning which didn't blow directly onto the bed. It was so quiet that also at night you didn't get disturbed by it. The big balcony was great, furnished with basket chairs and invited one to spend time.
Only negative point of the rooms was a missing soundproofness to the neighboring rooms.
That could be annoying when neighbors only came back home late or got up very early. On the whole it was very quiet during the night.
Tips and recommendations
To be very recommended was the whole day excursion to the island La Gomera. A very beautiful and multisided island.
If you like spending the day at the beach you should get beach mats and an umbrella (was also cheaply available near the hotel in the shopping center). Otherwise you payed 17.50 Euros rental charge per day for 2 beach chairs and an umbrella.
