An excellent, friendly, quality hotel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis was our 4th stay at the Eden Mar and we were delighted that things had not changed. It was still the friendly quality hotel that we have stayed at since 2002. The management of the entire facility was first class and comes down from Antonio Pais at the top and filters through to all the staff and then onwards to their guests. They are obviously well thought of and well looked after (hopefully) by Porto Bay management because there seem to be limited changes in staff, although Lina, who has transferred to the Santa Maria in the old town, will be missed.
The facilities at the Eden Mar and Porto Mare are excellent and the gardens are wonderful. We were on a B&B basis and the breakfasts in both the Alfama (Eden Mar) and the Atlantico (Porto Mare) were very good.
It is a short steep walk using steps or pathway to the main road and there is a supermarket just down the slope towards the Lido. There are many good restaurants locally (Ca Te Espero is excellent as is Casa Italia) and there are many in the town (35 minutes walk), Londres being our favourite.
We shall stay at the Eden Mar in the future and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
Location
Close to the Lido about 2 miles from Funchal town centre. Supermarkets close by.
All staff are very friendly and welcoming and speak good English. Rooms are very clean.
Gastronomy
There are a number of restaurants at the Eden Mar/Porto Mare facility and we had breakfast in the Alfama (Eden Mar) and Atlantico (Porto Mare) and both are excellent with a wide choice of hot a cold dishes and include some bubbly! Very friendly again.
Sport & Entertainment
The 2 outdoor and 1 indoor pool are fine and clean. There is a Gym and Spa if you want it.
Room
We were in a studio and it was very roomy with self catering facilities if you want them. There was a TV, aircon and a safe
