Great weather in the wrong place! *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AWe spent one week of all inclusive holiday in an oversized hotel area with hundreds of tourists. Maximum two-story, white building complexes and bungalows in oriental building design in a very extensive area.
During the day, they liked to save electicity so that you walked through totally black corridors when you came form the sunny weather outside.
The buildings needed renovation at many spots. In the dining room, the plaster was peeling off at certain spots due to the damp-ridden walls. You preferred not to think of mold. During the day, the sandy beach wasn't freed from left behind plastic beakers, which were used for the handing out of drinks outside, and other small trash. The terrace of the dining room had such a weak lighting in the evening that you could only guess what was on the plate.
On the area, there were German, French, Italian, Swiss and a few Eastern European tourists. The age of the guests was between 5 and 70 years.
Location
The distance to the beach was perfect. There were 3 pools, the one that was closest to the ocean was about 25 meters away from it. Many algas were washed up at the beach, unfortunately these weren't disposed of regularly so that you perceived the unpleasant smell at bad wind conditions. The hotel seemed remote. The journey to the airport took about three quarters of an hour... There were shopping possibilities in the area. A small jewellery and souvenir shop, a small kiosk and a small apparel store.
The all inclusive offer made urgent shopping actually unecessary.
We didn't visit the discoteque in the area. Other guests said that it was a bit boring. Excursions could be booked at the tour operators.
The weather compensated for many things. A bit more than 25-30°C in the shade, one rainy day in 7 days.
The rooms were cleaned. However, the cleaning staff seemed to be understaffed. They tried hard to do the most urgent things.
The staff spoke international languages. They seemed stressed, indifferent, slow and unorganized. The clothes of the staff at the serving counter didn't always look clean and neat. The service staff at the pool bars made an uninterested impression.
Gastronomy
I can't describe it! "The battle at the cold and warm buffet!"
Those who hoped for a tranquil, relaxing breakfast/lunch or dinner were definitely wrong there. More than 300 guests had to be served with food in one (!) hall during peak time. Long lines in front of nearly every counter! A well-organized family with thought-out planning managed it after a certain period of time (!) to eat together at the table. The staff responsible to set and clear the table couldn't keep up. The best thing was to clear his used dishes from the table himself from time to time. The staff didn't really seem to be intested in the situation and didn't change much in its speed. The offer in dishes was sumptuous and repeated and obviously met international demands. The local dish with the shortest line usually tasted best. There were stray cats on the terrace, they were pleased about the leftovers that fell down and liked to eat them. Used serviettes which were on the floor seemed to be overlooked from the management of the staff in the dining room. An incredible loudness in the dining room didn't allow much holiday relaxation.
At the pool, they mostly gave out drinks in small plastic beakers. A beer appeared very lost in them. You need not expect high-proof, famous drinks. Coke/beer/aperitif and spirits had local names and didn't really taste good.
Perhaps, tips increased the personal care a bit. But you didn't really feel like giving tips if you were confronted with the lack of motivation.
Sport & Entertainment
Two big salt water pool areas. Very tastefully laid out. Looked very clean. But they weren't often used to swim by the many guests. The water had a pleasant temperature just like the ocean which invited to swim.
The old pool rule was valid: Coming early secured good places or places at all. It would be best to set the unwanted alarm clock to 7 am and get an (intact) pool chair with cushion by reserving it with your own or with borrowed towels. You had to organize this all yourself and it was related with morning workout. But it also had advantages, for example a place in the shade.
The entertainers endeavored. I've seen better entertainers before.
Room
We stayed in a simply furnished family suite in the main complex. The furniture had major defects in our case. Defect bed, chair, lamp, no electicitiy in the outlets, defrosting, humid, moldy, empty minibar, TV that didn't work. Room in the ground floor with small terrace. Sufficient safe with code.
3 (!) telephones, also one in the bathroom (!) but few outlets.
But it was big enough for a family.
Tips and recommendations
Reception with the cell phone to Germany was all right, good network.
The weather conditions were perfect in the middle of October!
As far as cultural things are concerned, you had to look for something of you own taste. We went without it and enjoyed a pure, lazy bathing holiday.
A "pirate ship cruise" which could be booked at the tour operators was definitely recommended. A very entertaining excursion with a good ratio between price and performance.
