Ideally Suited for Bikers, MTB and Trekkers
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ASmall and very friendly family run hotel. About 20 rooms. Mine was totally renovated with spacious bathroom and a nice balcony. Very good atmosphere although the guests were of very different age. I met a lot of other Mountain Bikers there as the region is ideal for tours. Big breakfast buffet and half-board in the evening (also Swiss specialities). There were fresh fruits in the room every day.
Location
The hotel is situated in a small village on a hill (which I loved a lot as you can see the whole valley). Parking was not a problem. The city Bad Scuol is about 10 minutes by car. I think a bus stop is next to the hotel, too. St. Moritz was about 1 hour drive. Very funny the trip to Davos with the so-called Vereina (a train that runs through a tunnel).
I did not miss anything. The owners speak English, French and Spanish. Was very impressed by the daily fresh fruits in the room (luckily there was no Swiss chocolate). In my opinion the hotel is ideally suited for people who higher value a good atmosphere than a portier who carries the luggage (by the way: the cook repaired my bike...).
Gastronomy
One restaurant and a separate room for breakfast. There were a lot of regional specialities on the menu as well as vegetarian food. But also lots of so called "Buendener Fleisch". Very good selection of wine. Average Swiss prices but in comparison London a very good price level.
Sport & Entertainment
Unfortunately there was no spa-area. I went to Bad Scuol's health center which was good. I have seen a golf court too. Bad Scuol offered a great variety of activities as far as I can remember.
Room
Stayed in a double room for 14 days which was totally renovated. The quality of the matresses was very good. There was a spacious balcony, some of the rooms had a very big terrace. Unfortunately no coffee machine in the room. A hair dryer was provided by the reception. TV with German programs. The church is very close. You do not need an alarm clock.
Tips and recommendations
If you plan to stay for more than one week you should have a car. Provided the weather is bad, it is nice to go to St. Moritz or visit some of the castles in the Engadin. I knew the region from skiing but it is also most beautiul during summer time if you prefer hiking and biking to a holiday on the beach. The link to the hotel is www.engiadina-ftan.ch and very useful is the internet site of the Graubuenden are http://ferien.graubuenden.ch/de/welcome.cfm as they give a lot of useful information.
