We had a truly fantastic holiday
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AGanita Holiday Club is a mid-sized all-inclusive hotel (90km from Antalya, 1.5 hour by bus). The size of the hotel is definately pleasant, because it only takes about 5 minutes to get to the beach even from the most distant corner of the hotel area. I guess it has well over 300 rooms of which more than 150 family rooms.
Most of the guests of the hotel came from Eastern Europe, Russia. Belarus, etc. Some families came from The Netherlands, Germany, and France. Most of the hotel guests were families with young children, which is not strange if you realize that about half of the rooms are family rooms :-). The fact that most of them are families I consider something positive as the hotel was very quiet during the nights.
Location
The village where the hotel is situated is named Okurcalar (90km from Antalya Airport, about 35km from Alanya) and is relatively small. The hotel borders the beach, which is pleasant (max 5 minutes walk). There are several shops and a doctor's post in the hotel. Very near to the hotel there is huge shopping area, where several hundreds of shops are concentrated (a nice excursion for the evenings, when it is a bit cooler). There is plenty of excursion opportunities, but we decided to do only one (a boat trip in Alanya).
We were very happy with the friendliness of most of the staff (and in particular my dear friends Baris, Nihal and Serdar from the restaurant :-) ). And as I understood the staff was happy with our friendliness ;-). It was great that my willingness to learn some Turkish words and sentences was appreciated by many and that they were willing to give me Turkish lessons :-).
One advice for the hotel would be to make sure that the English level in general goes up. With most of the staff we could communicate, but some do not master the English language good enough. This I consider to be very important for receptionists, restaurant staff, and swimming pool staff in particular.
Room cleaning was in order. For some of the public areas (toilets) it could have been better, but I realize that this is difficult, because some of the users do not take their responsibilty for this.
Complaints handling by the reception was in good order. In fact I advice every guest to speak up in case something is not ok and not to wait until you write a review here. This is beneficial for your holiday experience ;-).
Gastronomy
The all-inclusive service of this hotel is truly very impressive. Plenty of opportunity to eat and drink during the day and this is not concentrated in certain locations only. Just perfect. Moreover, the food in the restaurants is excellent. Lot's of variety, and all was tasting delicious. Plenty of opportunity to take whatever you want and despite the fact that some of the guests find it necessary to take 6 times more than they eat, there was always enough food. Keep up the good work!!!
Sport & Entertainment
There are four swimming pools spread over the hotel area. There is plenty of entertainment thanks to the truly fantastic animation team. Some people reserve sunbeds early in the morning, which may be annoying, but I know this happens everywhere. What the hotel could do is add more beds, but then place should be created for this (may be on the grass field???).
Room
The family rooms are located in so-called villas (separate buildings). Within most villas there are multiple-family rooms (I guess between 4 and 6 for most of the villas). On the ground-floor there are the 2-room family rooms and on the first floor there are the 3-room family rooms. We were staying in the 2-room type of which both rooms had a good-working air-conditioning (and we needed that with temperatures up to 43 degrees ;-) ).
Guests should be aware that the layout in the 2-room type is such that the big room has a 2-person bed PLUS a single-person bed and the small room has a bunk bed offering place for 2-persons. We stayed with three children so we created a third bed in the small room using a sleeping couch, a chair and the matrass of the third bed in the big room. This offered a good work-around, so that we as parents had our privacy.
I have read the negative reviews about the state of the family rooms and do not agree with those. It is true that the rooms are not hypermodern and the shower room is pretty compact. However, the rooms are definately large enough and were cleaned properly. Moreover, if you realize that this room is only the place where you sleep and the rest of the day you are elsewhere (pool, restaurent, entertainment) then I think this put the things in the right perspective. The mini-bar was always filled with water, sparkling water and juices. The rooms are always properly cleaned.
Tips and recommendations
A first advice I would like to give to the Hotel Manager (with whom we have had very pleasant conversations during our stay) is to add a third air-conditioning in the 3-room type family rooms as I heard that sleeping in the big living room (without airco) was pretty awful with those July temperatures.
I also heard that some rooms had ant colonies (we didn't, luckily). Obviously, there exist pretty good means to tackle these problems, and the hotel should provide those if you'd ask me.
