A real gem

Actually, we shouldn’t be writing this review as Hotel Gitschberg in Meransen is a real gem. One which you wouldn’t want to share with other people for fear that it might be unpleasantly crowded next time you stay there.
However, the P. family deserve every possible recommendation.
From day one we were treated to their impeccable service and welcoming atmosphere that made us happy to return to this beautifully located hotel after long days of hiking in the nearby Jochtal and Pustertal areas.
Our double room with south-facing balcony was simply stunning: spacious, bright, modern and original in its use of natural materials.
Sitting in the tastefully refurbished half of the dining room, we enjoyed a week of refined local cuisine and an invitingly long yet reasonably priced wine list.
Hotel Gitschberg is excellent value for money, and should the P. family succeed in redesigning the bar, the wellness area (excluding the very nice panorama pool), and the more traditional wing of the restaurant, then we’ll have to delete this review, and keep the hotel to ourselves as our very own ‘Geheimtipp’.

The breakfast buffet has plenty for everybody. Dinner is an elegant five-course menu that you compose from different options.

We particularly liked the panorama pool for a late afternoon swim.

Originally designed and with a keen eye for detail, our double room produced a soothing atmosphere.

Tips and recommendations

Those who leave for a hike very early in the morning may be back at the hotel in time to enjoy free afternoon tea and cake (which is called 'jausen').
